As the Ultramarines wipe out hordes of Tyranids and Chaos in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, they are inevitably going to earn some war wounds. These wounds that players receive in battle may very well be one of their last, as becoming incapacitated and being faced with a Mortal Wound can easily spell game over, and a defeat for the Ultramarines that will have the Imperium in shame.

Space Marine 2: Hardest Operations, Ranked by Difficulty

Space Marine 2 features 6 PvE Operations that will challenge the very best of the Ultramarines with unique boss encounters and swarms of enemies.

Since players would prefer to be successful in their victorious operations and campaigns, it's best to learn what a Mortal Wound is, how to get it, why someone definitely does not want it, and more importantly, how it can be cured to ensure that Space Marine 2 players are never out of the fight for long.

What is a Mortal Wound in Space Marine 2?

incapacitated ultramarine gets a mortal wound

Space Marine 2 features a punishing mechanic in Operations and the Campaign Mode in which if the player is incapacitated, they will receive a Mortal Wound. Incapacitation occurs when the player has lost all of their health and needs a revival. Once they are picked up, they can tell if they have a Mortal Wound as the symbol in the top left next to their health bar will be replaced with a skull. Mortal Wounds are also dependent on difficulty level, as they only occur after 2 Incapacitations in Minimal and Average difficulties, and after 1 Incapacitation in Substantial and Ruthless difficulties.

If a player with a Mortal Wound becomes Incapacitated, they are instantly killed. There's no need to panic, as death does not mean the end. Those still alive will have to hold out until a checkpoint or for a minute or two whilst they wait for their squad member to respawn. However, there are some drawbacks, as respawning comes with half health as well as a loss of items, except for Armory Data. This means that players should organize who is weakest to not carry the Gene-Seed, as they will lose it if they die.

How to Cure Mortal Wounds in Space Marine 2

Mortal Wounds can be cured in two ways, with the first and most efficient being the Guardian Relic. Guardian Relics are found across Operations and the Campaign Mode at random points, so it's best to explore the map in search of one. A Guardian Relic allows players to self-revive, but on top of that, it will also cure a Mortal Wound once players with the debuff use the Guardian Relic.

Since Guardian Relics are bound to be rather rare, there is a second and less effective way to cure Mortal Wounds. When it's safe to do so, players should coordinate with their co-op team and let themselves be killed by a Tyranid or a Chaos enemy so that they can spawn back in at the next checkpoint or after a certain amount of time without the Mortal Wound impacting them. It's not the most recommended method, but it does cure Mortal Wound. However, it's worth noting that if a player is in solo mode with Bots, Bots can revive them, but a Mortal Wound means it is game over.
