In Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, weapon perks are special modifications that can be assigned to your weapons to improve their efficiency and performance on the battlefield. These perks can significantly enhance your combat experience by buffing your weapons with special mods, such as faster reloads, improved accuracy, and increased fire rate.

While weapon perks play a huge role in altering your gameplay experience in Space Marine 2, the game doesn't do a great job of explaining how you should go about unlocking these valuable mods for your favorite weapons. And, if you've found yourself in a position where you don't understand how to unlock weapon perks in the game, the following guide should come to your rescue.

Level Up Your Weapons & Unlock Weapon Variants

Space Marine 2 - Weapon Variants

You can level up your weapons in Space Marine 2 by simply using them in cooperative and PVP modes. The more you use a weapon in missions, the greater your XP gain. Eventually, you'll have earned enough XP to upgrade that weapon and transition to the next tier. There are four upgrade tiers in Space Marine 2, including Standard, Master-Crafted, Artificer, and Relic. To upgrade your weapons from one tier to the next, you must earn a specific amount of XP and a specific type of Armory Data.

Each time you upgrade a weapon tier, you also gain access to unlockable variants of the same weapon. These weapon variants provide a slight improvement over the base variants, but they do not come close to what you can achieve when outfitting weapons with perks. You can unlock weapon variants by spending a certain number of Requisition Points.

Weapon variants also have their own separate XP bar, which is filled when you use the weapon in co-op and PVP modes. Once this XP bar is completely filled, you'll gain a Mastery Point, which can be spent in the Perk Tree to unlock new perks for your weapons.

It’s also important to note that weapon upgrades are universal and class-independent. Once a weapon is upgraded, its benefits, including any assigned perks, are available to all classes that use that weapon. This means you won’t need to upgrade the weapon when switching to a different class that also uses it.

The quickest way to earn Requisition Points is by simply completing all available trials for each class. Completing all trials will leave you with potentially 450 Requisition Points.

You can also earn Requisition Points by playing Operations and Eternal War modes. Playing and completing Operations on either Substantial or Ruthless difficulties rewards you with additional Requisition Points.

How To Unlock Weapon Perks

Now that you've learned the basics of weapon upgrades, weapon variants, and Requisition Points, it's time to find out how to unlock weapon perks. In Space Marine 2, you unlock perks by spending Mastery Points. These points are earned when you complete the XP requirement for a weapon variant by using it in co-op and PVP modes.

Similar to weapon tiers, the Perk Tree features a tier-based unlock system, starting from Standard and going up to Relic. These tiers correspond to your weapon’s upgrade level. For instance, if your weapon is upgraded only to the Master-Crafted tier, the Perk Tree will only grant access to perks within the Standard or Master-Crafted tiers. As you continue to upgrade your weapons to higher tiers, you will unlock corresponding tiers in the Perk Tree.

Before picking a perk under the Perk Tree, take the time to observe how the tree progresses. It's important to understand that you cannot unlock every available perk, and acquiring certain perks will lock you out of acquiring other perks. The Perk Tree also follows a unique progression system, indicated by the lines that connect one perk to the other. Make sure that you study the perk progression before making your first investment. But it's not a nail-biting decision, since you can always reset and reassign them.

Finally, the Perk Tree in Space Marine 2 features both passive and active perks. The difference between the two is that you can deactivate active perks if you don't like them. You can identify active perks by their hexagonal design and passive perks by their square shapes.
