Penances are no joke in Warhammer 40K: Darktide. They're more than just achievements — these are actual challenges that will force players to adapt and alter their playstyles. Some of these Penances may seem borderline impossible to complete, while others may just need a whole lot of thinking.

Shocking Stuff is a Penance for Zealots in Warhammer 40K: Darktide that involves both strategy and luck. It may seem hard to do at first glance, but if you approach it with the right mindset, then you'll unlock it in no time. This guide covers one good strategy that players can use to wrap this Zealot Penance up.

How to Get the Shocking Stuff Penance in Darktide

Darktide Zealot using Flamethrower

The goal for this Penance is simple: on Malice difficulty or higher, kill 40 enemies within 10 seconds while they're stunned by your grenade. Forty enemies is a lot, so not only will you need the firepower to mow them all down before the stun effect expires, but you also need to get a group that's big enough to satisfy the Penance. Ideally, players should aim for unarmored enemies and avoid those using Carapace Armor.

Best Places to Do the Shocking Stuff Penance

WH40K Darktide Mission Select screen

Players can technically complete this Penance on any mission, but for convenience's sake, it's best done in the following maps:

  • Archivum Sycorax
  • Power Matrix HL-17-36
  • Excise Vault Spireside-13
  • Smelter Complex

The reason why these maps are good for the Shocking Stuff Penance is because hordes of Poxwalkers will come barreling toward players at the end of the match, right before the strike team leaves. The end parts of these missions also neatly funnel enemies toward players, making it easy for Zealots to complete the Penance.

To maximize your odds of getting this Penance, do these missions on the highest difficulty you can comfortably do. If you really want to get this done, you should play these missions on Auric Damnation mode with High Intensity modifiers.

Loadout Recommendation

Darktide Zealot Flamer Loadout

There are two weapons Zealots can use for the Shocking Stuff Penance: the Bolter and the Flamer. The former deals high splash damage, while the latter is designed specifically for cooking large hordes of enemies. Once you throw your stun grenade, pull your gun out and start blasting/spraying.

If you're not playing with friends, make sure to tell your team that you intend to get the Penance.

Reward

Darktide Pious Mendicant's Vestment lower body

Completing Shocking Stuff rewards players with Lower Body piece of the Pious Mendicant's Vestments set, one of the free cosmetic armor sets players can unlock for the Zealot in Darktide. It is meant to go with an Upper Body piece that's unlocked by completing the Up Close and Personal Penance — this requires players to complete a Malice difficulty mission or higher without ever firing a shot.
