While Space Marine 2 delivers visceral, blood-soaked combat, the chaos should not keep you away from the thrill of customizing your marine. Beyond being a ruthless weapon of war, your marine is a reflection of your unique style and personality. With a bit of creativity and effort, you can make them truly stand out on the battlefield.

One of the easiest ways to personalize your marine is by swapping out their armor. However, if you’re looking to go further and customize individual armor pieces, the game's robust system offers exciting options for creative players. Here's everything you need to know about personalizing your armor in Space Marine 2.

How To Unlock Armor Customization

Space Marine 2 - Armor Customization

Armor customization becomes available after you complete the prologue and the Skyfire campaign mission (operation 1). Upon returning to the barge after your first operation, you'll gain access to the Armouring Hall, where you can change and customize your marine's armor. Additionally, you'll also have the option to swap between the campaign, cooperative Operations, and the PvP Eternal War modes.

Within the Armouring Hall, you can interact with the armory terminal to view all unlocked and locked armor sets. You can unlock armor by completing Operations, and it's worth noting that any armor unlocked in Operations will also become available in Eternal War.

How To Customize Armor In Space Marine 2

You can only customize armor while in Operations or Eternal War modes. Once you've chosen either of the two modes, select the armor class you want to customize, and then click the 'Edit Armor' option at the bottom of your screen. This will pull up the armor selection menu where you can view all available armor sets. At the bottom of this menu you'll also find four custom armor slots that can be used to assemble custom armor sets for a particular class.

To create a custom armor set, hover over one of the four empty custom armor slots to bring up the armor selection menu, which should allow you to select the Helmet, Pauldrons, Breastplate, Wargear, Gauntlets, and Greaves. Now, you can swap the individual parts of your armor to create a unique look for your marine. You can also choose to remove the helmet if you prefer that style.

You cannot mix and match the armor pieces between classes. To truly customize your marine's appearance, consider exploring the custom Astartes Chapters.

But, this is just the beginning of armor customization in Space Marine 2, and to fully unlock the potential of customizing your marine's appearance, you must delve into the Astartes Chapters, which offers a suite of armor options and deeper customization.

The Astartes Chapters menu looks similar to the standard Armor Set menu, but with an arsenal of predefined armor sets to choose from. Creating a custom Astartes Chapters armor set allows you to not only mix and match different armor pieces, but also paint the armor with your favorite color and apply custom decals.

Within the Astartes Chapters custom armor menu, you'll find the following two customization rules:

  • General Rules: The General Rules is a simpler method of customizing your armor set, allowing you to apply paints and decals across the set, without having to tweak the armor pieces individually. You can also purchase new paint jobs and decals for your armor set with the in-game currency to expand customization options.
  • Custom Rules: The Custom Rules section offers greater freedom in modifying your Ultramarine's appearance. While you're in the Custom Rules, you can click the plus (+) icon to add an armor piece and customize it with your favorite paint and decals. You can follow this approach for each of the nine armor pieces for a set, including individual pieces that come in pairs, such as gauntlets and greaves.

How To Delete Custom Armor Sets

Space Marine 2 - Deleting Custom Armor

Since you're only limited to four custom armor slots in Space Marine 2, you'll need to know how to delete a custom creation if you wish to empty the slot for a new project. Unfortunately, you cannot delete custom sets under the standard armor menu, but you can replace the individual pieces within the custom set.

However, if you created a custom armor set under the Astartes Chapters and used the Custom Rules to add individual pieces, you can delete these individual items by hovering over the amor piece and holding down the Space bar on the keyboard or circle on the controller to delete the item.
