Despite the lack of damage output when compared to some of the heavier weapons available in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, the Lasgun is a solid choice for a good all-rounder weapon, accurate and fast firing enough to put up a fight against the swarms of enemies that players will face during their journey through Tertium alongside their squadmates.
Which Archetype Is The Best Choice?
There are certainly a multitude of Lasguns to choose from within Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, many of which are merely slight variations of one another with the main differences being ammo capacity, the size of the magazine, ammo consumed per round, damage profile, and the rate of fire. However, there are set weapon archetypes that can be compared.
- Infantry Lasgun: As expected from the name of this Lasgun, this is one of the earliest variants of the Lasgun that you can pick up in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide and one of the most common within the lore. This archetype is generally a well-rounded weapon without a particularly high fire rate and lacking a large magazine but not particularly poor in either area, with decent damage.
- Recon Lasgun: For players who just want to spray and pray, taking down enemies in a hail of lasers, this is the Lasgun type to pick. Capable of having both high rates of fire and huge magazines in comparison to other variants, these Lasguns are great at close to medium range. They do however lack in damage per bullet, so players will be hoping they can hit enemies enough times to make a dent.
- Helbore Lasgun: This is the Lasgun of choice for those players who want a big enemy dead and quick. The standard fire rate is slow with an even slower charged shot available to do big damage, particularly if hitting an enemy weak spot. Disappointing at times due to poorer accuracy than expected for a slow-firing weapon, when a little closer and aiming at a weak spot, this weapon type can work well.
4 Accatran MkII Recon Lasgun
The Accatran MkII Recon Lasgun has a high rate of fire and an acceptable amount of recoil alongside a large magazine which can make it ideal when facing swathes of enemies. Whereas the other Recon Lasguns in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide can sometimes feel like a chore to use, the MkII somewhat makes up for it with better ammo economy and its ability to pierce enemies when firing into large groups making it halfway decent at clearing rooms and corridors.

Melee weapons do the heaviest damage in Warhammer 40K: Darktide, and among them, these are the best choices to equip.
Overall, like with all the Recon Lasguns, the damage output per bullet is very low meaning players can be left feeling frustrated as they pump bullets into some of the tougher foes with slow progress toward an enemy’s death!
3 Lucius MkIII Helbore Lasgun
The Lucius MkIII Helbore Lasgun benefits from strong armor piercing and can tear through most things that the game can throw at players. When charging the shot as all Helbore Lasguns can, its accuracy is staggering and the damage climbs even higher.
Players should however be aware of a very slow reload and the uncharged shot feels quite weak meaning players will be relying on the charged shot most of the time and will need to get used to charging their shot on the way to the enemy so as not to waste precious time.
2 Lucius MkII Helbore Lasgun
Similar to the Lucius MkIII Helbore Lasgun but with arguably better sights, a faster fire rate, and slower consumption of ammo. It may not have the same one-shot capability as the MkIII but due to the faster fire rate, there’s a better chance of deleting the enemy quicker or even moving onto another target if a player were to miss the first shot.

At times enemies move very fast in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide so being able to be slightly more reactive while still holding a strong weapon is often a blessing.
1 Kantrael MG XII Infantry Lasgun
The Kantrael MG XII Infantry Lasgun does high damage, has a decent rate of fire when viewed in conjunction with the amount of damage it does, and has easy-to-use sights making it easier for players to hit the target. It also has a decent reload speed. The high damage helps when clearing waves of enemies, but something players should be aware of is that due to the relatively low rate of fire, if fighting some of the tougher enemies, the Helbore options could be better choices
However overall this is the best Lasgun in the game, it’s accurate, ammo efficient and the damage is nothing to be sniffed at against the majority of enemies players will face.
