Warframe has announced that its next update, Techrot Encore, will arrive in March 2025, while teasing some of its features. The forthcoming Warframe update acts as the next chapter in the Warframe: 1999 saga.

Starting from 2013, Warframe has leveraged its free-to-play model with the help of engaging paid expansions to cultivate a large player-base. In fact, the Digital Extremes-developed title is considered one of the most popular live-service games today and has consistently boasted over 50K daily users on Steam for over seven years. Throughout its existence, devs have managed to retain the players' interest on the back of several content-rich expansions, the latest of which came out in December 2024. With Warframe: 1999's launch already out of the way, the Canadian studio has set its sight on expanding the experience offered by the newest DLC in the coming weeks.

Digital Extremes has revealed that Techrot Encore, a follow-up to Warframe: 1999, is scheduled to ship out sometime in March. The developer also gave a quick rundown of certain new highlights in the forthcoming content drop, ranging from new cosmetics to yet another addition to the Warframe's current available frame options. Talking about the challenge awaiting players in the next Warframe update, it confirmed the arrival of a new enemy type called Technocyte Coda, who are described as "twisted copies of On-lyne." Players will need to scour the Origin System and defeat them, while unlocking new rewards using the game's revamped token system. Among these rewards are 13 Infested weapons and some "unique" customization items. Moreover, a new "Temple" warframe equipped with "weaponized harmonies," Gyre’s Deluxe Skin, and four different photoframes have been teased, ahead of the Techrot Encore-centric stream which will take place in February.

Warframe Looks Set to Revitalize its Player Count Once Again

Many of Warframe's past updates have seen the game's engagement skyrocket on the day of release. It was the same case with Warframe 1999's launch, which also coincided with a Balatro crossover, that resulted in its Steam player count peaking up to 120K users at one point. Over the past few weeks, these numbers have gone down to the region of 60K concurrent players. However, with Techrot Encore coming soon, Warframe once again looks very likely to get an engagement boost.

As 2025 unfolds, Warframe seems ready to expand its horizons and land on new platforms. In February 2024, the sci-fi action title finally landed on iOS, bringing the game to a whole new mobile audience. Next, the devs hope to bring their free-to-play game on Android, for which pre-registrations have been in place for a while.
