Summary

  • DJ Hero 2 on PS3 was found at a Walmart in Mexico.
  • This is despite the fact that the game is 14 years old.
  • When purchased, the game rang up as a PS4 title.

A Walmart in Mexico was still carrying a copy of the PlayStation 3 game DJ Hero 2, despite the fact that the game first came out 14 years ago and the PS3 was two generations ago at this point. While many major retailers have started cutting back on physical game sales, most Walmart stores still have entire sections dedicated to games. For the most part, these games are for newer consoles, but older titles can sometimes be found on bargain racks.

The latest console generation has moved even further away from physical game releases. That, combined with the fact that PS4 and Xbox One games are playable on newer consoles, has led to the continued sale of those games in places like Walmart. However, it's rare to find games from the PS3/Xbox 360/Wii generation still on store shelves. And if they are discovered, it's likely because they are there because of an error or oversight.

What exactly was going on with the PS3 copy of DJ Hero 2 discovered by Reddit user ChromeBoy728 is unclear, but it's still an interesting find. The Reddit user noted that the game rang up as a PS4 title despite being a PS3 release. The peeled stickers on the box indicate that the price was changed multiple times. At the time the Reddit user purchased it, the game was being listed for 299 pesos, which translates to about $16.75 in USD.

PS3 Copy of DJ Hero 2 Found at Walmart

This is far from the first time that a gaming relic like this has been discovered at a Walmart. Last year, another Reddit user found an Xbox 360 copy of Call of Duty: Ghosts Prestige Edition at their local Walmart. The Prestige Edition of the game included the Season Pass, a camera, a strap, and various other goodies. It cost $199.99 at launch, but Walmart was selling it for $89.00 at the time of its discovery. Considering how long that box had to have been sitting there, it wasn't all that surprising to discover that, while it was unopened, there was some clear cosmetic damage to the package.

Even more wild stories have happened at non-Walmart retailers. Perhaps one of the most notable examples dates back to 2018 when a Toys R Us employee found an unopened copy of Mario Kart 64 hiding under a shelf. The game was caked in dust, but was otherwise unopened, and so should be worth a decent amount.
