A rumor that international development studio Virtuos is working on a Metal Gear Solid game continues to gain credence. Konami has been in the news recently as having licensed out several significant properties to a surprising selection of game studios. That includes several major Silent Hill games currently in development, as well as remasters of the first two Suikoden games. Metal Gear Solid is another obvious opportunity for Konami, and it may already be happening.
There have been multiple reports in recent memory that Virtuos could be working on a Metal Gear Solid 3: Snakeater remake for Konami. A Virtuos programmer notably listed an unannounced AAA-quality, multiplatform action-adventure game remake being in development at the studio. VGC also reported that publishing sources confirmed that Virtuos' project is a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake. Long story short, it's been a focus for some time.
The latest evidence that Virtuos is working on a Metal Gear Solid game stems from a "Day in the Life at Virtuos Montreal" video marketing its Montreal office to potential new recruits. One section of the video features comments from concept artist Louis-Alex Boismenu. During this shot, a book titled The Art of Metal Gear Solid can be seen. On its own, it's just a book, but with the other evidence of Virtuos working on a Metal Gear Solid project in mind, it's hard to ignore.
What's being implied is that Virtuos is hinting at its current project to help drive recruitment efforts. It, obviously, isn't going to announce a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake until it's ready if that is what it's working on. But it's undeniable that if the project was announced it would lead to more applicants, and applicants of a higher level of experience. Teasing Metal Gear Solid 3, even in a small way, could prove a smart decision.
Alternatively, Virtuos may not be working on a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake at all, but it may have heard the rumors. This could be a way to boost recruitment, even though the project that Virtuos is working on is something else entirely. Or, of course, it could just be that this Virtuos concept artist is a fan of Metal Gear Solid and it has nothing to do with anything else.
If a Metal Gear Solid game is in development at Virtuos or elsewhere, it's only a matter of time before it gets officially announced. If Konami is willing to license out the Silent Hill franchise, it's got to be just a matter of time before it licenses out Metal Gear Solid, too, given the franchise's success.
