Players who pre-ordered the Premium Edition of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 on PlayStation 5 will get a refund by September 8, developers have confirmed. After a long, bumpy road up to its imminent release, the hotly anticipated sequel has caused a bit of a stir in ways Paradox Interactive and The Chinese Room likely would've rather avoided. In response, the companies are offering some Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 players a refund before the title is even out.
After multiple delays and concerns over studio layoffs, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 finally got a firm release date in August 2025, with developers reassuring fans that the game would arrive on October 21 the same year. Pre-orders went live across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation that same day, giving fans a choice between three different editions. Not everyone was happy about the discrepancy between those versions, or more specifically, what the Standard Edition did not include, but now there may be some relief on the horizon.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 is Being Compared to Dishonored
Early reactions to Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 compare the sequel to the action RPG Dishonored, sparking optimism among fans.
Paradox Is Issuing Refunds for Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 Premium Edition Pre-Orders on PS5
In a post on the game's official Discord, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 devs announced that anyone who pre-ordered the Premium Edition on the PlayStation Store will be contacted for a refund starting on September 8. Fans will be able to pre-order the game again later on, though specifics are unclear beyond it being possible to re-order it before its October 21 release date. It's also unclear why exactly Paradox and The Chinese Room are issuing these refunds, though some users think it has to do with the “Shadows and Silk” DLC. Many fans were upset at the news that two of six Bloodlines 2 clans would be locked behind the $22 DLC, so some believe devs are adding these clans into the baseline version of the game and adjusting the DLC and Premium Edition accordingly.
Interestingly, the Discord post did not mention PC or Xbox pre-orders, though that doesn't rule out a change to the content each edition includes. The update did say more information would come out on September 17, and that the Bloodlines 2 team was "making significant changes" that take time to finalize, given all the moving parts involved. It's the latest in a series of challenges for the game, as Bloodlines 2 was delayed multiple times before The Chinese Room suffered layoffs, though the latter issue does not seem to have heavily affected the title's development.
Despite the bumps along the way, there are positive signs for the game ahead. Early impressions of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 are largely positive, even if it's taken a while to reach this point. Thankfully, anyone anxious to learn more won't need to wait long to hear from the team behind the game.
