Perhaps some of the most iconic characters in the Vampire Survivors: Ode to Castlevania DLC are the bosses you face on your way to Dracula's throne room. From the likes of the Giant Bat that welcomes you into the castle walls, to the motley duo of Slogra and Gaibon poised to stop you with their tag-team attacks, they're all represented in some way in the expansion.
To progress through the castle, you'll need to defeat them. Not all at once, mind, as that pesky Red Death is always on standby to stop a run after 30 minutes. No, instead, you'll use them to open gates and warp between the different regions, thereby unlocking secret characters and their various weapon sets a little bit more easily. To help you keep track of who you've beaten at least once, here is a list of all the boss encounters in the Vampire Survivors: Ode to Castlevania DLC.
Updated November 5, 2024: We've added more boss locations for the Ode to Castlevania DLC for Vampire Survivors.
Vampire Survivors: 15 Strongest Standard Characters, Ranked
Vampire Survivors features a vast array of playable characters for gamers to make use of; here are the strongest standard characters in the game.
How to Fight Vampire Survivors: Ode to Castlevania Bosses
To start, there are 15 runes in Vampire Survivors: Ode to Castlevania that are immediately accessible. Each one contains bosses you encounter on your trip through Dracula's Castle. To summon them, you need only walk over the rune until you see an exclamation mark. The enemy should then appear above you, and upon their defeat, they'll always drop at least one chest. Sometimes, however, they drop a second item that can be handy for progression.
Many of these are optional, but you may find that beating them unlocks a new weapon for you to evolve, and thus more characters to use in your next run. Beating some of these bosses requires you to dodge their attacks, which will flash on the screen. They're relatively easy to avoid so long as you keep moving. You also don't need to stick around the same area as the boss will follow you, and you can have more than one rune active at the same time. Just make sure you don't lose track of where they are, otherwise, you could bump into them and take damage; or worse, lose out on valuable treasure after they perish.
Vampire Survivors Ode to Castlevania Boss List
It should be noted that these bosses are separate from the enemies such as Bugbears, Medusas, or Malphas, who appear after a set amount of time has passed. Those foes, while also iconic Castlevania bosses in their own right, are the Vampire Survivors equivalent of the checkpoint foes you'll encounter as the clock ticks ever onward.
After you unlock Dracula, more bosses will appear in the new area to the south, while picking up the Pile of Secrets item for beating Beelzebub reveals a handful more in secret areas across the entire castle. In total, there are 31 Vampire Survivors: Ode to Castlevania bosses in the level, and below you'll find a list of all of them, as well as details on any of the guaranteed items they drop in addition to regular chests:
- Stone Rose - Head southwest to the forest near the start and enter through the top or bottom side.
- Behemoth - From the start, head northwest until you hit the top-left corner of the area (gives Rock Riot weapon).
- Giant Bat - Head east from the start and cross the bridge. Continue down the hallway until you find the rune (Unlocks the Stallion Gate).
- Giant Medusa Head - Continue on from the Giant Bat to the east, then go north up the staircase. At the top, you should see the rune.
- Slogra and Gaibon - After beating the Giant Medusa Head, go to the west to the end of the corridor. There are two bosses activated at once, each giving their own rune.
- The Creature - After beating the Giant Medusa Head, go north into the Marble Gallery. Head west past the Parm Aegis and into the theater room (gives Fulgur weapon).
- Doppelganger - After beating the Giant Medusa Head, go north into the Marble Gallery. Head north and west until you reach the 2D section. Time will stop as you fight this boss.
- Puppet Master - From the Scorpion Gate, head northeast into the next area, and you should find the next rune on the way (unlocks the Scorpion Gate).
- Paranoia - After the Puppet Master, head into the next area and venture south between the books. Eventually, you'll reach the runes (unlocks the Capra Gate).
- Blackmore - From the Paranoia rune, head west and go through the wall near the books with some bloodstains. Venture through the maze until you find Blackmore's rune.
- Gergoth - From the Capra Gate, head northwest until you reach the rune partway back toward the previous area.
- Brachyura - From the Capra Gate, head southwest until you reach the rune (gives Ice Fang weapon).
- Zephyr - H ead to the next area to the east after the Capra Gate. About halfway up the Clock Tower is Zephyr's rune (gives Gale Force weapon).
- Abbadon - After reaching the Zephyr rune, head further north to find an enclosed room. Inside is Abbadon's rune (unlocks the King's Gate).
- Death - Select Richter as your character and head to Abbadon's rune. From there, head to the north and then through the door to the west. The Gaibons should disappear if you've done this correctly.
- Treant - After beating Death, start a new run and head for the new area to the south. As you approach the building, you'll find the rune (drops Wood Carving Stone).
- Nemesis - After the Treant rune, head into the new Catacombs area to the east. You'll find its rune on the other side of this location (unlocks the Serpent Gate).
- Galamoth - From the Serpent Gate, head through the maze and into the next area. In the first big roo, you'll find its rune.
- Mummy - After beating Galamoth, head east through the area. Just after the X Gate and before venturing into the new area, there is a rune (gives the Hex spellbook).
- Succubus - From the Beast gate, head northeast and into the next area. Keep going until you find the second point where you can venture south. Follow the path until it splits again, and this time, go north. You'll find the rune in this area.
- Legion - Instead of going north to fight the Succubus, head south and to the west. The area will turn 2D, and time will stop. Use the platforms to gain leverage and destroy each segment before fighting the middle (gives the Ebony and Crimson Stones).
- Eligor - From the Beast gate, head northeast and into the next area. Instead of going south to Succubus and Legion, head north. In the center of the next area is the Eligor boss rune.
- Jiang Shi - Continue north from the Eligor boss into the next area. At the altar, you'll find the Chinese Hopping Vampire's rune (drops the Refecto spellbook).
- Beelzebub - From the Scorpion Gate, head northwest and through the previously locked door. This area will turn 2D, and time will stop. Use the platforms to reach each body part and beat them until only the torso is left. Be careful not to touch the flies as they will sap your health (gives the Pile of Secrets).
- Walter - After unlocking the Pile of Secrets, go to the Stallion Gate and head toward the Giant Medusa Head boss. Instead of going up the stairs to the left where the boss is, head east to the new area, which is a bridge. The rune is halfway across.
- Soleil Belmont - After unlocking the Pile of Secrets, head to the Stallion Gate and continue toward The Creature rune. Continue west to find this new rune.
- Keremet - After unlocking the Pile of Secrets, go to the Scorpion Gate and head northwest to the new rune east of Beelzebub's boss room. This one can glitch out if you head for it too quickly, so save it for later in the run to avoid problems (drops the Keremet Bubbles spellbook).
- Camilla - Head east after unlocking the Pile of Secrets from the Capra Gate. It's about halfway across the corridor.
- Stella and Loretta - After unlocking the Pile of Secrets, go to the King's Gate and west for the new rune to the west. Activate it twice to get both bosses.
- Joachim - Head east after unlocking the Pile of Secrets from the Serpent Gate. Just before the next area, there's a hidden room filled with ice containing the rune.
- Olrox - After unlocking the Pile of Secrets, return to the Eligor rune and head due west. You'll find his rune near the confessional booths. This boss has two forms, so make sure you beat both.
