Tejo: A Quick Background

tejo character valorant

Tejo is a Colombian Intelligence Agency agent with years of experience in the field. Before using his skills as a consultant, he was a military veteran who served his country. In Valorant, Tejo has close acquaintances with Brimstone, a veteran who served in the US Army. Because of their similar backgrounds, they share a close friendship and respect for each other.

The name Tejo is a nod to a popular sport in Colombia that traces its roots back to the area's indigenous people. It involves throwing metal discs that explode at targets, placed on a board filled with gunpowder, making the game even more explosive. This goes hand-in-hand with how Tejo works in the game.

Based on Valorant’s trailers, Tejo appears to be a cool, calm guy with a laid-back attitude. A cup of Colombian coffee is also seen alongside him, further emphasizing his roots. He wears a yellow jacket with a loose-fit undershirt and jeans.

All Tejo Abilities, Explained

Tejo’s kit mainly focuses on pressuring his targets to move and relocate. In a lot of ways, his kit is similar to Breach, but rather than using stuns or flashes, he uses explosive grenades and a salvo. He isn’t entirely about blowing stuff up, though. He even comes with a drone that provides intel and makes life easier for anyone entering a site. All of Tejo’s abilities, how they work, and the best ways to utilize them are described below.

Special Delivery (Q)

This ability will equip a sticky grenade in Tejo’s hands. Firing will launch the grenade, which will stick to the first surface it hits and explode immediately. The explosion will concuss all enemies within its blast radius, leaving them vulnerable to your attack. You can also launch the grenade with a single bounce using your ALT FIRE button.

This ability is very simple and can be utilized in several ways. The first thing that comes to mind is clearing out common hiding spots while taking or retaking a site. Your duelist can dash into that position after you concuss it to clear anyone without the risk of losing the fight. You can also use it to clear positions yourself, giving you an edge while taking a duel.

Stealth Drone (C)

This ability will equip a stealth drone in Tejo’s hands. Firing will throw the drone forward, allowing you to control the drone using your movement keys. Firing the drone again will send a pulse wave, revealing and suppressing any enemy within its range.

Again, this ability is perfect for clearing angles and opening players' paths to enter the site. This is a great counter against sentinel players like Cypher and Killjoy, as it suppresses their utility and gives easy access to any attackers pushing them. The reveal also makes them an easy target for anyone to take down. You can also use your Special Delivery grenade or the third ability, Guided Salvo, paired with the Stealth Drone’s info.

Guided Salvo (E)

Equipping this ability will open a targeting system that displays a part of the map to the player. You can position and launch up to two missiles anywhere within that target range, which will steer themselves to the targeted spots and detonate.

These missiles can be perfect for clearing a site. Placing targets in common hiding spots or positions of players revealed by teammates would guarantee a kill or, at the very least, force the players to fall back. Another great use for this ability is for post-plant scenarios. Since it is essentially the same as Brimstone’s ultimate, it can be played similarly. Whenever a defender comes to diffuse the spike, send a salvo flying their way to get them off it.

Armageddon (X)

tejo ultimate-1

This is Tejo’s ultimate, which equips another targeting system that allows you to place a wave of explosions from one map point to another. Clicking on a spot on the map of the targeting system will set the point of origin for the explosive wave. From there, you can set the direction of the wave in whatever direction you want. Pressing ALT FIRE will remove the point of origin from the system.

This ultimate is similar to Breach’s and can be used similarly. Before taking or retaking a site, sending out this ability will allow the players to flood the area easily and not worry about going into a gunfight at a disadvantage. It can also push back enemies from entering the site during a retake situation by giving your team more time to set up the post-plant or hold on to the site.

Best Tips For Playing Tejo

tejo tips

Even though Tejo’s abilities seem pretty straightforward, in a competitive setting, players must find ways to use them in ways their opponents won’t expect. You’ll need to think outside the box and apply pressure in ways that keep your enemies on their toes. Here are a few tips to keep in mind about team composition and situations where Tejo’s kit shines.

  • The best agents to pair with Tejo are Jett, Neon, Raze, Brimstone, and Killjoy
  • In addition to his responsibilities as an initiator, Tejo is very effective as an attacker during post-plant scenarios. Think of Sova’s utility, but even more effective; that's essentially Tejo. His Special Delivery and Guided Salvo are great for keeping defenders off the spike and the bomb ticking. His Stealth Drone can act like a Fade Haunt or Sova Recon Dart, allowing you and your teammates to keep peeking at the defenders trying to defuse the spike.
  • While using Tejo’s Guided Salvo, fire both missiles simultaneously. This is because you only get one charge for the ability, meaning even if you fire only one missile, you will still get a 40-second cooldown before being able to use it again. This makes using one missile at any one point during a round seem quite inefficient. Even for clearing a singular spot, it is wiser to you both missiles.
  • Check every corner while using your stealth drone. Just like a Skye Trailblazer, it is important to leave no stone unturned. Players could be hiding in any corner, and it is risky for your entry duelist to clear everything manually. So, to make life easier for the whole team and minimize the risk of anyone dying, try to clear as many corners as possible with the stealth drone.
