One of the Best Co-Op Survival Games of All Time is Coming…

During the recent Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase, Iron Gate Studio revealed that the popular co-op survival game Valheim will be making its way to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. Valheim is an early access title that made its initial debut on February 2, 2021, but it was eventually ported to the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S platforms in 2023. After years of waiting, it seems as if even more people will be able to enjoy the co-op title, as it has officially been confirmed that Valheim will be launching on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 later this year.

Valheim is a survival-crafting title that allows up to 10 players to explore a procedurally generated world where danger lurks beyond every corner. Gamers start their journey without any supplies, so they need to start gathering materials as soon as possible. Like many survival games, players need to consider the limitations of their character, as hunger and sleep can impact whether they make it to the next day. The title has gained a reputation for its grounded mechanics, which is perfectly exemplified by Valheim's deep building mechanics. During a recent Nintendo Direct, which featured a wide variety of announcements from Nintendo's various partners, Iron Gate Studio revealed that Valheim will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. A lot of fans have been waiting for this announcement, as last year the developer confirmed that Valheim will be coming to the PlayStation 5 in 2026 as well. As of right now, the developer has only confirmed that the title will be coming to these new platforms this year, so there's no way of knowing exactly when Nintendo or PlayStation players will be able to play the game.

After the Nintendo Direct, Iron Gate Studio released an official statement going over what players can expect from the port. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Valheim will fully support crossplay with other platforms, which means gamers will be able to play together regardless of their preferred platform. These features could set the Nintendo Switch 2 version apart from other platforms, though they may not be a selling point for all gamers.
