V Rising is a survival adventure RPG in which players can live out their creature-of-the-night dreams as vampires. Starting from nothing, players craft their combat gear, build impressive castles, and defeat enemies as their power grows. V Rising can be played solo or with others using an online server.
Public servers are available, and co-play capabilities are great if players want to join the same clan. Alternatively, players can host their own dedicated server if they want more control over the settings and to decide who will join. How To Create A Dedicated Server In V Rising
Players must choose their server type whenever they start a new save in V Rising. There are three options:
- Online Play
- Private Server
- Host Dedicated Server
Option 3 is what players want to choose.
After selecting "Host Dedicated Server," the next page asks if players want to host or rent a dedicated server. V Rising servers can be rented from GPortal using preset plans or by creating a custom configuration. Renting a server ranges from $3.73 to $35.75, but hosting one is free.
Players can set up their free server using one of two options:
- Download SteamCMD
- Download the server straight from Steam
How To Download A Dedicated Server In V Rising
One way is to download the server using Steam. The free V Rising dedicated server is found under the Tools section in the Steam library. Once downloaded, players can customize their server settings, name, and more by right-clicking, selecting "Manage," and selecting "Browse Local Files."
Players can also use SteamCMD. SteamCMD is the command-line version of Steam for installing and updating dedicated servers. Players must download SteamCMD if they want to use it to run their server. After logging in to download the server files, players must input "App_update 1829350" as the Steam AppID.
How To Set Up A Dedicated Server In V Rising
Follow the below instructions to set up a V Rising Dedicated Server:
- Start by opening the server files, find start_server_example.bat, and make a copy of it.
- Change the server name by writing the name inside the quotes following -serverName
- Change the save file name by writing the name inside the quotes following -saveName
- Save and quit the file to confirm the settings
- Next, open the folder called VRisingServer_Data--> Steaming Assets-->Settings
Players will see two options:
- ServerGameSettings - changes game settings within the dedicated server.
- ServerHostSettings - changes server settings within the dedicated server.
The game settings include things such as PvP and PvE, the day and night cycle, damage output, and chat settings. The server settings affect save files, server passwords, and other backend data.
Additionally, the adminlist allows players to add admins to their dedicated server. It can be accessed by finding the folder save-data-->Settings.
How To Join A Dedicated Server In V Rising
To make their server joinable, players must allow the server through their Firewall and set up port forwarding on their router. Port forwarding will be different for everyone, depending on their router, but for most, it requires knowing their internal IP Address and IPv4 Address. The best way to ensure it is done right is to follow the manufacturer's instructions on port forwarding for their specific router.
After getting the server running, players can then join it by launching V Rising and following the following steps:
- Click "Play"
- Select "Online Play"
- Select "Show All Servers" at the bottom right side of the next page
- Then, type in the server name. Make sure the correct filters are on/off
