The full release of V Rising lets players fully customize their PvE servers, while some opt for PvP instead. The most generous of servers in V Rising will probably still limit the total number of castles that can be built to five. That means that players must be intentional about where they choose to build their vampire lair. Additionally, though the default selection is two castle hearts for a player, many PvP servers limit each person to a single base. This leaves many newer players wondering where the best base locations in V Rising are.
When it comes time to put down roots in V Rising, players face a tough choice. In the big, beautiful world of Vardoran, where can players build the best base in V Rising? Factors like size, nearby resources, and waygate locations all come into consideration. Taking it all into account, there are ideal locations in each territory that stand out for PvP and PvE gameplay.
Updated July 16, 2024 by Juliet Childers: V Rising officially launched on May 8, 2024 with its Castlevania-themed expansion. This added the final wrinkle to the game's lore that had been missing: Dracula. It may not be the final expansion to the game, but it added yet another area to the map just like the most recent expansion.
Though fans cannot build a base in The Ruins of Mortium, there are plenty more base options in the latest added area of Gloomrot. But which base locations in V Rising offer the most in terms of proximity to useful locations, defensively situated entrances/exits, and that overall vampire aesthetic?
Farbane Woods
A Neat Starting Area That Sadly Becomes Irrelevant
- This area has tons of base locations, but not all are best for PvP or PvE
- Players may find their first bases becoming obsolete as they progress through the game
The only downside to building a castle in these locations is that other players are pretty well aware of how good they are. For PvP players, be ready to defend very early while PvE players should make booking these spots a priority. Players should learn to build a castle quickly, but also how to relocate one to claim a spot before anybody else.
The blue and orange outlined base locations are great for PvE and solo players as they are close to tons of resources. The left base outlined in pink is a highly defensible PvP base location, but it is a bit far from the original starting point of the game. Seasoned players may opt for it while newer players may take a traditional base location instead.
Hallowed Mountains
The Best Part Is Its Proximity To The Ruins Of Mortium
- This area is small but offers four possible base locations
- Offers solid resources, but the best part of this base location is its proximity to late-game objectives in The Ruins of Mortium
The Hallowed Mountains are mostly passed up by players due to a lack of unique resources and/or story elements. Having a base here is fine for gathering stone, lumber, hides, and finding the occasional iron node, but most players only pass through here to use the waygate or find V Blood targets. The best base location is outlined above.
V Rising: Best Spells To Unlock First
There's a plethora of spells in V Rising, and unlocking the best ones early can set you up for success later down the road.
But that's part of the beauty of building here. There's a ton of space with room for castle infrastructure and minimal traffic. PvP traffic that does come through will likely not see any castle as a valid target. Those looking to build in a spot and then be left alone, place a castle heart on one of the mesas, clear out the wolves, and enjoy some peace and quiet.
Dunley Farmlands
The Center Of The Map And The Gameplay Loop
- Players will want to keep a base here due to its abundant resources and central location on the map
- Chose from three solid locations that are good for solo or duo PvP and PvE players
If players can only build one castle, make it somewhere in the Dunley Farmlands. There are tons of excellent base locations in that region, but several stick out as some of the best base locations in V Rising. Get a load of all those nearby locations with gems, quartz, horses, glass, mourning lily, and a variety of blood for players that have any combat style.
Outlined in pink in the bottom left is an ideal duo base for PvP players that is highly defensible and sizable. The blue-outlined base location is great for late-game players as it is nicely situated near The Ruins of Mortium. PvE players looking for a centrally located base should opt for the orange-outlined area. It is very close to the Haunted Iron Mine, as well as several Dunley villages and camps.
Silverlight Hills
All Hail The Sacred Silver Mine
- Players can choose from several base locations, though one is best for PvE
- All bases are close enough to the Silver Mine, which is great for late-game
Bypassing unnecessary conflict in Silverlight Hills counts for a ton in V Rising. But the proximity to a huge silver mine is the real draw of the leftmost base location in Silverlight Hills. That makes building a base here a no-brainer for PvE players. However, it's a very popular spot for late games in PvP. After all, making silver coins is a priority for the endgame, so expect competition from fierce rivals. Forward-thinking PvP players should stake out a claim here early.
V Rising: Every Magic Type, Ranked
This list ranks each of the 6 magic types in V Rising, determining the best overall for conquering Vardoran.
Alternatively, there is a spot in the northeast of this region where a castle could be built, but it has two drawbacks. The first is the aforementioned silver miners, who will regularly band together to destroy castles built here. The second -- especially for duo players -- is that the area is much smaller than the other base location. Players are still very close to the silver mine and situated closer to Gloomrot in the northeastern base option.
Cursed Forest
This Place Is A Vibe With One Huge Annoyance
- This area has one of the best aesthetic base locations in the game
- The "Curse of the Forest" debuff is ALWAYS active
When it comes to farming high-level, rare materials, there is no better spot for a castle than the very northeastern part of the whole map in the Cursed Forest. The Ancient Village is nearby, you can farm the monsters easily, and the plot has tons of room for planting and other harvesting infrastructure at your castle. Alternatively, players can opt for the base location on the left outlined in pink to be closer to the Spider Cave.
The wildlife here is deadlier than average, so experienced players will love it here, but newer players will need to get their special cloak first. It removes the negative effects of the "Curse of the Forest" debuff that clouds out the map and screen. That's really the only downside to building bases in the Cursed Forest. Oh and Gorecrusher. He tends to wander around near that northeastern base quite a bit.
Gloomrot
A Mutated Steampunk Nightmare With Vicious Environmental Damage
- Contains a few base locations where players can maximize their defense and proximity to resources
- The brutal environment can be both a boon and a problem
Gloomrot has two distinct areas that may necessitate multiple bases depending on what strategies players want to employ. The upper left corner of the map has tons of lightning storms that let you get batteries and such more easily. The center and right sides of the Gloomrot area make it easier to come across Mutant blood, scrap metal, and Mutant grease. The far-right base outlined in green is also close to the Cursed Forest for easier access to the Spider Cave.
The bottom right base outlined in orange makes a great duo PvP location while the central base outlined in blue makes a great base for solo PvE players. You are close to many resources and in a very defensible area. However, as current players know, the environmental effects like fire, sunlight, and lightning can be brutal. As such, some players may want to tweak the damage numbers for their servers or find a base location that best suits their play style to mitigate that damage.
