2025 has had some amazing triple-A experiences across multiple genres. Ghost of Yotei was a compelling open-world game with slick samurai action and a deep story. Donkey Kong Bananza was a showstopping return for DK in his strongest appearance yet, with plenty of baddies and mountains to destroy with his bare fists.
Upcoming Games All About Customization
From creating a character to personalizing their clothes, abilities, or their role in the world, these upcoming games are big on customization.
Battlefield 6 delivered a multiplayer shooter experience that brought the series back to form. The list could go on, but the point is: it’s been a big year. With 2025 wrapping up, it’s time to look forward to what’s next in 2026. The next round of triple-A games could be even better than what 2025 brought to the table, with these upcoming releases set to blow away critics and gamers alike.

- February 27, 2026
- Planned Release Date: 2/27/26
- Planned Systems: PC, PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S
Resident Evil Requiem will be the ninth mainline entry in the series and the first to return to Raccoon City in quite some time. Even though its release date is fast approaching, there are many details still unknown, like whether the long-rumored Leon S. Kennedy will make an appearance alongside Grace, the new protagonist.
Also, much like the beginning of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, the game looks more puzzle-heavy and frightening, as Grace doesn’t seem to possess many ways to fight back. Whether this is more of a spooky simulator or an action-horror game does not matter, as it will surely excite fans come next February.
Crimson Desert

- March 19, 2026
- Genre(s)
- Action, Adventure, Open-World, Exploration
- Planned Release Date: 3/19/26
- Planned Systems: PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S
Crimson Desert looks like it could be an early contender for one of 2026’s best open-world games, as the amount of features is staggering. It looks like a standard action RPG set in a fantasy world, but there are some sci-fi aspects like mechanical dragons, robots, and guns to make it stand out from the crowd.
Players can ride horses, climb buildings, fly on dragonback, or glide on a parasol as they explore the world. There are big bosses that players can mount Shadow of the Colossus- style, powers that can psychically grab bullets out of the air or pick up stone pillars, and so much more.

It’s been a long time since the last James Bond game, and 007 First Light looks unlike anything the series has seen before. Bond is a younger man and not officially an agent yet, so he is hungry to prove himself, which will lead to shenanigans and likely some poor decisions that lead to cinematic action.
Upcoming Games Like Zelda
Nintendo hasn’t announced a new mainline Zelda yet, but these similar upcoming action-adventure games should help fans get by.
The game will feature many ways to approach missions between stealth and action, akin to the Hitman franchise (which was made by the same developer). It looks like a linear experience with lots of bombastic set pieces, not unlike the Uncharted series, and that should sound fantastic to single-player fans, as it’s been a while since they've seen Nathan Drake, and James Bond is a perfectly good substitute.

Grand Theft Auto 6 does not need to release another trailer, because fans were sold the moment the game was announced. There are still a lot of mysteries surrounding the gameplay, like whether both Jason and Lucia will be playable and how open the world will be, but that only serve to drum up even more hype.
That said, there are already a lot of locations seen in the two trailers that players can explore, including Vice City, some swamplands, and a National Park. Players can golf, box, play pool, kayak, and so much more. This game is already all but guaranteed to be 2026’s best-selling game. What more is there to say?.
Marvel’s Wolverine

- 2026
- Developer(s)
- Insomniac Games
- Planned Release Date: Fall 2026
- Planned Systems: PS5
Marvel’s Wolverine has been cooking for a long time, and it seems like it’s almost ready to debut. Wolverine is hungry for action, as are his adamantium claws. It looks a bit linear from the debut trailer, but with some open spaces to explore. That's quite unlike Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, but a more focused experience could be good, too.
Not everything needs to be an open-world game, and Insomniac has at least proven that they get what makes the character great: lots of blood. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls could be out in 2026 as well, which also look intriguing as Marvel games, so Wolverine will have some strong competition.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword sees the return of the Onimusha franchise proper in 2026 after twenty years of fans waiting for a proper sequel. The combat looks more intense than ever, almost Soulslike, between the parry system and the big, intimidating enemies.
Upcoming Horror Games With Chilling Monsters
Halloween is fast approaching, and these upcoming horror games will be perfect to play around the holiday.
It looks like it has a darker tone, but the humor is still there as well, with flamboyant demons that bask in blood and carnage and a protagonist who isn't the typical suave hero. Between this and Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom is going to rule the horror scene in 2026.

- Planned Release Date: 2026

The Blood of Dawnwalker is being developed by a team of creators who also worked on The Witcher games, including one of the directors of The Witcher 3. Fans of that series can expect the same intense action, between melee skills and magic, as well as a branching narrative and rock-solid writing.
The twist is that players are newly turned vampires, and they can either feast on the innocent or use their newfound powers for justice. There are day and night segments, with the powers of darkness being stronger during the witching hour. Walk on walls, develop new vampiric powers, take on quests, and more in this upcoming gothic open-world adventure.

Clockwork Revolution had a big trailer this year, showcasing everything it has under its hood. The coolest gimmick will be the time manipulation feature, wherein both players and enemies can seemingly change the fate of the city in which the game takes place.
At its core, the game is an RPG first-person shooter, so players can expect lots of quests, character customization options, and guns. It may not be ready by 2026, but fingers crossed, as this could be the start of a big new franchise under Xbox’s roof.
These Games Aren’t Coming Soon, But They Are Worth Hyping Up
Hype trains are dangerous, as they can get derailed, but these games look so promising that getting hyped for their far-off release is still worth it.
