Summary
- 2025 promises new horror game releases, including Bad Cheese, Cronos: The New Dawn, and Silent Hill f.
- Dying Light: The Beast offers brutal zombie gameplay with mutated creatures.
- Little Nightmares 3 brings a co-op horror experience in October 2025.
2024 was a decent year for horror games. From the indie community, there was Crow Country, which was like a PS1-style game taking place in an amusement park. A fan favorite horror game got a remake, Silent Hill 2, and there was also Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.
Exciting Upcoming Games With 4-Player Co-Op
From Borderlands 4 to Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, 2025 has some amazing 4-player co-op games on the horizon.
So far, 2025 hasn’t been that exciting, save for a few horror-related releases like Doom: The Dark Ages. Are there any horror games releasing before the end of the year or soon into 2026? The answer is a resounding yes, as there will be plenty of horror games to play by Halloween, as well as ones to look forward to in 2026.
Bad Cheese
Something Smells
- Developer: Simon Lukasik
- Publisher: Feardemic
- Released: September 1, 2025
- Planned Release
- Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
Bad Cheese is one of many Steamboat Willie cartoon horror parodies in 2025, but this one is a game. It reimagines the plucky mouse as a more rounded character who is lost in a world of nightmares. Players can solve puzzles or fight back against weird cartoon characters, with one that looks like Pluto if it were a naked three-headed hydra.
With the weird music and black-and-white filter, Bad Cheese could be a good/bad time on platforms like PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S come September. While it may not be the scariest upcoming horror game, it will at least be one of the most widely available.
Cronos: The New Dawn
Dead Dimension
Cronos: The New Dawn
- Released
- September 5, 2025
- ESRB
- Mature 17+ / Intense Violence, Blood and Gore, Strong Language
- Genre(s)
- Survival Horror, Science Fiction, Action
Cronos: The New Dawn resembles a spiritual successor to Dead Space, if the game were developed by David Cronenberg and focused more on weird dimensions than just space itself. The character’s suit alone looks like a Cronenberg design thanks to its explicit nature in the helmet.
Upcoming RPGs That Could Be The New Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Can these upcoming games usurp Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's rule over the 2025 RPG scene, and maybe even challenge it for Game of the Year?
The game looks dark and distorted, with undead dripping entities hiding around every corner and above. One of the creepiest monsters looks like several humans clung together, and it can climb ceilings. Nightmares will be had on PC, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S in September.
Dying Light: The Beast
Awaken The Zombie Within
Dying Light: The Beast
- Released
- September 19, 2025
Dying Light: The Beast was delayed once, but hopefully it won’t get delayed again for all of the hungry PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S fans out there. The Dying Light games are some of the most brutal zombie experiences players can get since the undead are frighteningly fast.
Not only that, but as the title implies, there are more mutated creatures lurking behind the shadows. Even with the best arsenal around, players may be at a loss when these creepy lurkers come knocking toward the end of September.
Silent Hill f
Schoolgirl Daze
Silent Hill f
- Released
- September 25, 2025
- ESRB
- Mature 17+ / Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Partial Nudity
- Genre(s)
- Survival Horror, Action
Silent Hill 2’s remake in 2024 rejuvenated faith in Silent Hill fans, and now they are more excited than ever for a new original title, Silent Hill f. Set in Japan for the first time, and also the past, this unique take looks like it could be the scariest yet.
There are a lot of mannequins and flowery creatures stalking the old Japanese streets in all of the trailers shown so far, and it doesn’t look like players can fight back heavily yet. Unless something happens and causes a delay, Silent Hill f should be available by the end of September on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Little Nightmares 3
A Co-Op Horror Treat
Little Nightmares III
- Released
- October 10, 2025
- ESRB
- Teen / Blood and Gore, Violence
- Genre(s)
- Puzzle, Platformer, Horror
Little Nightmares 3 is the surefire game this year, set to release in October for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. While Supermassive Games is busy making another entry in this 2D puzzle horror series, the original developers, Tarsier Studios, are busy making a new IP, ReAnimal.
ReAnimal’s trailers definitely have the scarier monsters, but since it doesn’t have a date yet, fans are better off looking forward to Little Nightmares 3. This time, they can bring a friend along for the nightmare, which doesn’t necessarily mean it will be any less terrifying, as the creatures and humanoid figures look unnerving.

- PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC
H.P. Lovecraft is one of the oldest masters of unsettling horror, and more games keep getting adapted based on his work. The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is a unique take on a game, as players will sail around with three other players and look for loot on islands. Unfortunately, these lands are infested with all sorts of cryptic ghouls.
Upcoming Games Like Zelda
Nintendo hasn’t announced a new mainline Zelda yet, but these similar upcoming action-adventure games should help fans get by.
Think of it like Sea of Thieves mixed with Dead Island. There is no set release date yet, but the Steam page does still say 2025, and it will release for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S eventually. Even if it misses that date, it’s one to Wishlist and keep in mind.
Resident Evil Requiem
By The Grace Of God

- February 27, 2026
Resident Evil Requiem is probably the most anticipated game on anyone’s horror list, and it looks like it could be scarier than even Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. The trailers so far have avoided showing any kind of creatures or real gameplay. However, lucky Gamescom attendees can play a demo of the game and exercise one of the creepiest monsters shown so far.
This stalker looks a bit like Salvatore Morea from Resident Evil Village because of its weird eyeballs and hunched back. It’s safe to assume this creature will not be the only mutated entity Grace will face in the ruins of Raccoon City. Resident Evil fans can expect to see the game in February of next year, 2026, on platforms like PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Best Games That Go Harder Than They Need To
These games just had to be "good," and they'd be successful. Instead, their developers went ahead and made some of the greatest games of all time.
