The God of War franchise debuted on the PS2 in 2005. Between sequels, spin-offs, and remasters, PlayStation fans got a steady stream of Kratos-themed content for a while. There was a break for a few years, but after the reboot in 2018, the series returned stronger than ever. It was plain to see that fans were still hungry for action games that were brutal in their combat and fantastical in their settings.
Upcoming Soulslike Games That Could Be The Next Bloodborne
Grin and bear it, Bloodborne isn’t returning anytime soon, but these games will be here shortly.
They also wanted gripping stories that tugged at their heartstrings as much as made them pump their fists in exhileration. Who knows when the next God of War game will launch, but for now, these are some upcoming brutal action games that should keep God of War fans satiated.

Marvel’s Wolverine has been a long time coming, having been originally announced in 2021 and with an official gameplay trailer recently released during a September 2025 State of Play. It appears to be a combination of God of War’s visceral combat and a complex Marvel hero, along with Uncharted's patented set-piece action.
There’s a moment in the latest trailer where Wolverine shoves his claws into an enemy’s face and another where he lops off an arm, which is well in line with Kratos' own brand of visceral combat. For some, Fall 2026 can’t come soon enough, but for those hungry for more news, Insomniac Games promised to share more details sometime in Spring 2026.

There was a drought of Ninja Gaiden games for a long time, but 2025 seems to be the franchise’s big comeback year. There was Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, a remaster, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, a new 2D game, and Ninja Gaiden 4 is set to be the cherry on top.
For those seeking brutal and bloody action, this game appears to deliver a satisfying gameplay loop without sparing players the series time-honored difficulty. This is a collaboration between Koei Tecmo and PlatinumGames, a studio that knows a thing or two about creating fast and fluid action games, and it will be here in October across a plethora of platforms.

Yakuza fans are going to be eating well for the next few months. Switch 2 fans will get enhanced editions of Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 in November, followed by other consoles receiving them in December. These remastered games are a bit older, but the more exciting news concerns Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, which looks like it’s adding a lot more content.
Coolest Features Confirmed For Ananta
Could Ananta bridge the gap between the next GTA and Spider-Man games? These exciting features shown in the latest trailer suggest it may have a shot.
The original game launched in 2010 in North America, and this remaster will be coming to multiple platforms in February 2026. Kazuma Kiryu, the franchise’s stalwart hero, does his talking with his fists (and whatever else he sees lying around). The brutality of combat never ceases to be enjoyable in these games, along with a consistently dramatic story juxtaposed with wonderfully goofy side quests.

Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered is a remaster of a 2001 PS2 game. Strangely, Koei Tecmo and Omega Force decided to skip remastering the second game to celebrate the 25th anniversary, instead bringing this game to consoles in March 2026.
Anyone who has played a Musou-style game knows there is a lot of non-stop action across a wide range of levels. There may not be a lot of blood or exploration opportunities to satiate God of War fans, but there will at least be a lot of action and many characters to choose from. Lu Bu and Kratos would certainly have some cinematic showdowns as rivals.

It has been a long time since a proper new Onimusha game was released, going all the way back to the PS2 in 2006. That’s why fans are more than hungry to get their hands on Onimusha: Way of the Sword, which Capcom has been promoting heavily. It looks like a cross between the older games, which were survival horror, and something akin to a Soulslike in terms of difficulty and combat.
Either way, the monsters look hideous, and the action looks brutal, which is exactly how an Onimusha game should look two decades after the series took an extended hiatus. The samurai game genre definitely needs more horror games like Onimusha: Way of the Sword.

Nioh 3 is another upcoming horror-infused samurai game, except this one is definitely a Soulslike. Also, many players have probably tested it out by now since the beta came out around Nioh 3’s announcement in June 2025, and it received positive feedback.
Players can customize their character and explore more open areas than any other entry, either alone or with friends. The combat is responsive, visceral, and, of course, difficult, but facing twisted historical figures and demons should never be easy. Just ask Kratos.

Lords of the Fallen 2 is a very mysterious game, as there has only been a CG trailer shown off to date. That said, there are technically two previous games in the series, and the combat in those predecessors indeed falls under the Soulslike genre. They’re also very weighty for Soulslike games, as players can feel the impact of every weapon they use.
Lords of the Fallen 2 looks like it won’t be backing down for any of the action, as players will try to take down godlike beings across semi-open environments. It’s a sentiment Kratos could definitely get behind.
These Games Aren’t Coming Soon, But They Are Worth Hyping Up
Hype trains are dangerous, as they can get derailed, but these games look so promising that getting hyped for their far-off release is still worth it.
