Summary

  • Hollow Knight: Silksong finally has a release date — launching this September after years of waiting.
  • A swarm of long-teased games remain without firm dates — hype is strong, release timelines unclear.
  • Trailers teased diverse hits — horror, cyberpunk, open-world, clones, and lawsuits (e.g., Horizon lookalike).

At long last, Hollow Knight: Silksong has a release date. It was announced in 2019, and now it’s launching soon in September. There are a lot of games like this that are announced way too early, and the hype trains build so much momentum that they take on this god-like energy. Grand Theft Auto 6 is another example of this, and it’s hard for other games to compete against these cycles of hype.

Upcoming Games Like Zelda

Nintendo hasn’t announced a new mainline Zelda yet, but these similar upcoming action-adventure games should help fans get by.

While some games are fun to anticipate the few months or year before their release, others have unclear release windows. Still, based on gameplay or trailers shown, they already look well-established, meaning that they could release soon as a surprise. It may be dangerous to keep those hopes up, but t hese games are worth building hype around, even if their release may still be a ways off.

Since Darksiders debuted in 2010, fans have been waiting for the promise of Darksiders 4. The original game ended with a tease of War’s fellow Horsemen coming to his aid, but every game after that was either a prequel or interquel, and while they were decent games, they disappointed by not living up to the first game's promise.

Darksiders 4, which was just announced with a brief teaser in 2025, will let players choose to play as any one of the four Horsemen, as stated on the game’s website. No release date has been confirmed, but it’s safe to say, based on how brief this trailer was, that the game is probably a ways off, and it may be a while before players can enter the apocalypse once again.

DokeV was first teased in 2019, and the game hasn’t had much of a presence since then beyond a few more trailers and screenshot postings released in 2021. The developer, Pearl Abyss, is currently working on Crimson Desert, which is set to release in 2026. That’s probably why DokeV is taking so long, which could indicate that it will be released after the developer's next title.

As a refresher, DokeV looks a lot like Pokemon, except that everything shown so far has been taking place in cities with more exploration and activities showcased rather than battles between monsters. It's the kind of open-world approach to monster catching that could be a fun change of pace for a Pokemon clone.

Felt That: Boxing was one of the highlight announcement trailers shown off during Summer Game Fest’s event in 2025. It mixes The Muppets with boxing gameplay akin to Punch-Out, a series that Nintendo hasn’t touched since the Wii.

Exciting Upcoming Games With 4-Player Co-Op

From Borderlands 4 to Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, 2025 has some amazing 4-player co-op games on the horizon.

Even though the game's trailer looks like it was captured on film, all of the puppets were rendered with 3D graphics, which is incredible. No release date was included in the trailer, but the footage shown suggests that Felt That: Boxing has the potential to be the next Cuphead in terms of creativity.

ILL's first teaser was revealed in 2021, as stated by the developer's YouTube account, and it recently got a new trailer during Summer Game Fest 2025. Team Clout has shown that they have come a long way from their original project, as the graphics look more realistic that back in 2021.

The creature designs, in particular, are original and horrific, especially the weird baby monsters, and the combat physics look brutal and satisfying. As the title suggests, ILL looks disgusting but, in the best possible way, one that all horror game fans will surely enjoy.

Light Of Motiram

Horizon Forbidden Clone

  • Developer: Polaris Quest
  • Publisher: Polaris Quest
  • Planned Release: Q4 2027

Light of Motiram was revealed in late 2024 with a lengthy trailer that detailed its world and provided some gameplay snippets. It looked a lot like the Horizon titles from Guerrilla Games, so much so that Sony went after the developer, Polaris Quest, in a 2025 lawsuit.

Those legal battles are still being fought, but fans interested in this open-world survival action game shouldn’t worry. After all, Palword was sued by Nintendo, and it is still available, even as a blatant Pokemon clone, so why shouldn’t Light of Motiram be allowed to exist as well? If the legal battles don’t slow things down, the game is set for release in 2027 according to its Steam page.

Neo Berlin 2087

Another Cyberpunk RPG

  • Developer: Elysium Game Studio
  • Publisher: Elysium Game Studio
  • Planned Release: TBA

Neo Berlin 2087 has been in development for a while, with its first trailer debuting in 2023. It has been a staple of Gamescom every year, with subtle progress in the animations shown in each new trailer.

Upcoming RPGs That Could Be The New Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Can these upcoming games usurp Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's rule over the 2025 RPG scene, and maybe even challenge it for Game of the Year?

It looks like a spiritual successor to the Deus Ex series and even features Elias Toufexis, who voiced Adam Jensen in the last two Deus Ex games. The gameplay and atmosphere are all there, too, with elements like gunplay, stealth takedowns, and cyberpunk backdrops. Now, if only the developer could nail down a release date.

Project Bloomwalker

If The Word "Project" Is In The Title, It's Not Coming Soon

  • Developer: Netmarble Neo
  • Publisher: Netmarble
  • Planned Release: TBA

Project Bloomwalker could be a year away, or a decade, as it’s hard to tell when a game has the word “Project” in the title. The game’s trailer was showcased during Gamescom 2025, and it’s so new that it doesn't even have a Steam page, despite being set for at least a PC release.

The game looks remarkably like a Studio Ghibli film, specifically Howl’s Moving Castle, as there is sentient fire and a moving alchemist stand. It’s not the first game to be inspired by Studio Ghibli, and it won’t be the last, but this RPG-like sim looks promising all the same.

CD Projekt Red does not have the best track record when it comes to announcing games and then delivering them in a timely manner. Cyberpunk 2077 was first teased in 2013, and it was released in 2020. Granted, in that span of time, the developer released several games based on The Witcher, so it's not like they were radio silent.

This is all to say that The Witcher 4 could be a long way off, but the developer has shown it off twice in a relatively short amount of time between its December debut, followed by a 2025 tech demo trailer. It's not much to go on, but it's a new Witcher game, so it doesn't take much to start the hype machine rolling. Whenever it comes, Ciri fans will be happy.
