Summary

  • Until Dawn 2024 remake has improved graphics, new content, and is available on PC.
  • Fans criticize the missing "O Death" song and changes to the soundtrack in the remake.
  • It's unlikely that future updates will make changes to the soundtrack despite fan feedback.

The 2024 Until Dawn remake is missing the popular song "O Death." When Sony announced plans to release an Until Dawn remake, many fans were scratching their heads. After all, the original Until Dawn still looks great and is readily available to play on PlayStation 5 through backward compatibility.

To its credit, the Until Dawn remake has significantly improved the already-impressive graphics. Not only that, but the Until Dawn remake is available on PC, whereas the original is PlayStation-only. Combine that with the fact that there is some new content in the Until Dawn remake, and some hardcore fans may very well find the new game to be worth the price of admission.

Keeping everyone alive may give you a secret ending, but killing everyone will bag you an achievement/trophy.

Unfortunately, the Until Dawn remake has been no stranger to controversy since its October 4 launch. One issue that fans have with the game is that the iconic song "O Death" is missing from the opening credits and title sequence, replaced with a song called "Out of the Shadows" performed by Mae Stephens. The new song doesn't sound bad by any means, but the use of O Death in the original Until Dawn is so iconic that swapping it out for something else was bound to ruffle feathers. And that's exactly what has happened, as fans have taken to social media to complain about the lack of O Death in the Until Dawn remake.

No O Death is far from the only complaint that Until Dawn fans have about the remake's soundtrack. Based on the comments online, many fans feel as though the Until Dawn remake's soundtrack is inferior across the board, and that the changes hurt the impact of certain scenes. While Until Dawn updates may address some of the other issues with the game, it's highly unlikely that there will be any sweeping changes to the soundtrack based on fan feedback.

Besides gripes with the soundtrack, fans have criticized the Until Dawn remake for various other reasons as well. Some think it's a buggier experience than the original game, while others are not a fan of the switch to an over-the-shoulder camera angle from the fixed-camera angles used in the original. Those on PC have also expressed their disdain for the choice to have Until Dawn require a PSN account. All this controversy has culminated in Until Dawn debuting to "Mixed" reviews on Steam.

O Death was later used in other games made by original Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games, like its Dark Pictures series, and so it's possible that licensing issues prevented it from being featured in the remake, but that's just speculation at this time.

Even if they're disappointed with the remake, the good news is that there seems to be an Until Dawn sequel happening. Not only that, but the Until Dawn film adaptation recently wrapped filming, so franchise fans should have a lot to look forward to in the years ahead.
