As you recruit more members to the Liberation Army in Unicorn Overlord, such as Tatiana or Mordon, you'll find that some have an allegiance to the evil Galerius, while others have no particular ties. Convincing these characters to join your team can sometimes be a positive, but there is also a chance to reject them.
As you will eventually run into Berenice, you'll take her on in battle, to where she will offer to join the Liberation Army should you defeat her. However, since there are two options available here, you might be wondering what the consequences are if you choose to bring her on or reject her offer.

Where To Find Berenice In Unicorn Overlord
If you'd like to meet Berenice in battle, she can be found through The Mercenary's Trial quest, located west of Lis de Prairie Village. You can find the exact spot of the quest in the map image above. Not only will this quest give you the chance to meet with Berenice, but you will also unlock the ability to mine at the Quarry, and obtain items such as Unicorn Overlord's Divine Shards and Corsite.
Before taking on this Side Quest, make sure that your team is at least level 6 or higher. You can find a guide here on how to level up quickly in Unicorn Overlord. Approach Berenice, and she will inform you that she wants to test your strength to see if the Liberation Army has the ability to defeat Zenoira. After the battle, a cutscene will occur, where Berenice will give you two options:
- Accept her offer.
- Refuse.
What Happens If You Refuse Berenice's Offer?
If you choose to refuse Berenice's offer, she will be sad to hear it and not join the Liberation Army. However, it seems that she will remain on good terms with Alain despite the rejection, as she still provides him with a few tips on mining, and hands over the Lapis Pendant to him. This item will increase the holder's base PP by 1.
Berenice will stay outside of Lis de Prairie Village after Alain refuses her offer, so you can visit and talk to her again. At the moment, it is unclear if there will be another point in the game where you'll run into her, or if there's another chance for her to join the team later on.

What Happens If You Accept Berenice's Offer?
If you choose to accept Berenice's offer, she will immediately join the Liberation Army. If you choose this option as well, you will get to hear a little bit more of Berenice's backstory, and her relationship with Clive. In the past, she used to be a knight, before getting into a fight and being kicked out. After that event, she became a mercenary and stopped working alongside Clive.
You will get the same rewards if you choose to accept her offer, such as x2 Honors, a Baroque Sword, a Free Mining Pass, and more. The only thing you will not receive is the Lapis Pendant item which Berenice hands over if you reject her offer.
Should you Accept or Refuse Berenice's Offer in Unicorn Overlord?
Based on the two options available to you, we recommend choosing to accept Berenice's offer. While you won't receive the Lapis Pendant, it is better to have an additional member on the team who is also one of the first Sellsword-types to join.
It is also possible to find the Lapis Pendant through other methods after you bring Berenice onto the team, so overall, it is much more useful to accept her offer. There isn't much benefit to rejecting her, and you will also not get to learn more about her character and her backstory. This will also negate the possibility of building a relationship with her through Rapport.
