You can earn fans in Umamusume: Pretty Derby by participating in races. Winning races will net you more fans, but you'll still get some followers as long as you don't come in dead last. Some girls need a significant number of fans for their career milestones, so don't neglect the optional races to spam training and rest.

Optional races are unlocked after you complete the debut race for an Umamusume character at the start of their career. After that, you'll have access to the race menu next to the skills, training, and other career activities.

There are multiple race types to choose from, and you can opt for safe races that your trainee is sure to win or more challenging races that will reward a ton of fans if your Umamusume manages to come out on top. You can also peek ahead to see what races are coming up if you want to plan your schedule.

You'll fail your career if you don't meet any required fan milestones, but the game will warn you multiple times in advance if you're coming up on a deadline without enough fans. You can cut it pretty close since the later races reward a bunch of fans if you win, but you'll blow it all if you don't have the right training to win those big races. Try to mix in a few races here and there during your next career run, especially if you want to stock up on skill points to help your Umamusume in races.
