Jujutsu Kaisen is remembered today as an incredibly tragic story. Over the course of the series, fans have been introduced to some of the greatest and most well-written characters in the entire genre, with many of them typically being considered to be some of the most iconic in the modern era of the industry.

However, due to the nature of the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, where danger lurks around every corner that not even the strongest are necessarily safe from, it has led to many losing their lives tragically. So, in this article, let's go over those within the story who deserved much better endings than the ones they got.

Riko Amanai Was Just A Young Girl Who Deserved Much More

Death: Hidden Inventory Arc

Riko Amanai was the central part of the entire Hidden Inventory arc as the Star Plasma Vessel who had to be used as the conduit for Tengen, making her one of the most important figures in the entire Jujutsu Kaisen story. However, despite this incredible responsibility, Riko was just a 14-year-old girl at the end of the day who was being asked to essentially give up her life.

She had witnessed a lot of horror already, such as the deaths of her parents and family. At the end, Geto finally told her that she didn't have to go through with the merger, to which she tearfully agreed. However, this brief moment of happiness was ruined by Toji putting a bullet in her head, which also acted as one of the major catalysts to Geto's own spiral into madness.

Yuji Was Forced To Outlive Everyone He Loved

Currently Alive In Modulo

Everyone remembers Yuji as the upbeat young man who has always been the life of pretty much every scene that he has been in. Throughout Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuji starts to realize his role as a protector and never lets anything keep him down for very long, always finding a way to help the world however he can.

However, his personality in Modulo is starkly different. He never died, since his mysterious body and powers have ensured his immortality, which means that he has been forced to watch all of his loved ones grow old or die while he rests at the pinnacle of strength in the setting. This has led to him being cold and distant, making him suffer from the intense loneliness that his mentor Gojo also went through.

Yuki Met A Horrific End Against A Monster

Death: Culling Game Arc

Arguably Jujutsu Kaisen's best female character, Yuki was someone who stole every single scene that she was in. As one of the only Special Grade sorcerers, her strength was incredible, as were her goals, since she sought to make the world a better place by eliminating Cursed Energy from humans, which would ensure that no new Cursed Spirits would be born.

However, her direct enemy who went against her beliefs was Kenjaku, one of the most powerful Jujutsu users in history. Their battle was legendary and Yuki truly put up a great showing. However, due to her allies around her, she could never truly go all-out with her strength, which led to her gruesome and untimely demise.

Gojo Was Used As A Weapon For His Entire Life

Death: Shinjuku Showdown Arc

Far and away, Satoru Gojo was the most powerful sorcerer of the modern era, and was the only one on the level of Sukuna during the setting of the original series. Gojo's strength meant that he was viewed more as a weapon than a person for his entire existence, and due to the loneliness that came with such a level of power, Gojo spent much of his life alone without anyone to understand him.

Despite this, some even argue that Gojo died the exact way he would have wanted to. By honing his skills and strength for years, Gojo finally got to use them against someone who could keep up. At the end, Gojo's death may seem adequate for what he wanted, but his life as a weapon still shows that he deserved better overall.

Nanami Came Back To Jujutsu Out Of A Sense Of Duty

Death: Shibuya Incident Arc

Nanami quickly became a fan-favorite character ever since his introduction to the story. Acting as another mentor-figure to Yuji, Nanami's lessons and comments always came as wisdom and his dynamic with Yuji made for one of the most entertaining aspects of the earlier part of the Jujutsu Kaisen story.

Nanami eventually left his life as a sorcerer due to the danger it posed. However, after working a normal job for a time, he saw how much Cursed Spirits infected everyday life, so he decided to come back out of a sense of responsibility, though he never really wanted to. In this line of work, though, he eventually met his end, doing the thing he hated while thinking about how he wishes to retire to Malaysia. In his final breath, he entrusts everything to Yuji in one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the series.

All Choso Ever Wanted Was To Help His Younger Brothers

Death: Shinjuku Showdown Arc

In perhaps the most tragic death scene in the entire series, Choso gave his life to save Yuji from certain death from Sukuna's furnace attack. Though he started off as a villain, Choso redeemed himself because of his devotion to Yuji and his commitment to protecting his younger brothers.

Over the course of Jujutsu Kaisen, Choso showed his true, heroic side, often being ready to face impossible odds just to ensure the safety and the thriving of his brother Yuji. What makes it even sadder is the fact that, in Modulo, Choso would have been the only one to stay with Yuji after all of these decades, which would have given Yuji companionship to save him from the utter loneliness that he is facing right now.

Jujutsu Kaisen can be streamed on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
