EA's UFC 5 has added several new mechanics, from the submission mechanics to some minor touches to the striking system. However, the biggest and arguably most welcome adjustment is the visible cut and damage to fighters and how they impact the flow of the fight. Visible lacerations to the face, broken noses, swelling, and limb damage all factor in a fighter's performance in UFC 5.
However, if a combatant takes too much damage, a doctor will be called into the cage to decide whether it is safe to continue the fight. It isn't always clear what the warning symbols mean when a fighter is damaged. Use the following tips to understand Damage Icons and doctor stoppages in UFC 5.
UFC 5: How To Create Distance
Maintaining distance is one of the best ways to defend against pressure fighters in UFC 5.
The Damage Icons In UFC 5
To prevent a doctor from coming into the Octagon and stopping the fight, players must keep an eye on their Damage Icons. Furthermore, they will impact a fighter's performance in the arena, making them vulnerable and visibly tired.
Vision Penalties
The eye icon will appear underneath a fighter's stamina bar when there is swelling or a laceration to the eyes, forehead, and cheek. Taking more damage to the injured side will result in more damage taken to the head in UFC 5.
The icons start with the green eye for less severe injury, with the red icon representing the most serious. Elbows are the fastest way to cut an opponent and get an early stoppage. Unfortunately, too many players exploit this mechanic for easy wins in online ranked and unranked matches.
Breathing Penalty
The lung symbol appears when the nose and the mouth have taken too much damage. This is arguably worse than an injury to the eye because it affects the fighter's stamina and performance.
In addition to more vulnerability to the head, damage to the body drains more stamina than usual in UFC 5 and will destroy an opponent's stamina gauge. Low stamina means a fighter is slower and weaker when throwing strikes.
Doctor Stoppages
With too much overall damage, the Doctor Stoppage icons change from green to red, and the referee will pause the match, call in the doctor, and assess the damage.
Unfortunately, a contest can be stopped even when a player has regained the upper hand. For offline players, doctor stoppages can be switched off in the settings under the Game Style menu.
