THQ's Darksiders Genesis released in 2019 for Google Stadia and PC, though the Stadia version was inexplicably more expensive, and later dropped on PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One. The game was divorced from its predecessors, taking a Diablo-style isometric approach to combat, so fans of its particular aesthetic can look forward to seeing an official art book release next month.
The Art of Darksiders Genesis will be a hardcover book with 200 pages of character designs, rough concepts, environments, storyboards, and more according to its listing on Amazon. Series creator Joe Madureira, who returned to work on Darksiders Genesis alongside the studio Airship Syndicate, is one of the authors of the book and designed its cover.
Darksiders Genesis is the first game in its series to feature co-op gameplay as Strife and War, two Horsemen of the Apocalypse, attempt to stop a plot by Lucifer in the time before the events of the rest of the series. The cooperative elements of Genesis, as well as its gameplay and art style, elevate it somewhat beyond a number of technical issues that were present at launch and its short 10-hour campaign.
Udon Entertainment's The Art of Darksiders Genesis promises to be a spectacle for fans of the game and its franchise when it releases on July 7, 2020. Plenty of similar art books, such as The Art of Super Mario Odyssey published by Dark Horse Comics, offer windows into design and production for any gamer and aspiring developer to explore.
Darksiders Genesis is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
