Ubisoft has just published the official playtesting website for Project U, its all-new co-operative multiplayer shooter. While it's been known for some time now that the publisher has a number of secretive projects in production, any potential specifics have been hazy at best, with leaks and details seemingly missing any relevant information about a new co-op multiplayer shooter.

Whereas Ubisoft may have already had a few tries at coming up with an exciting and novel cooperative game idea, Project U seems to have a number of things going in its favor. Most notable is, perhaps, the fact that it's described as a "new concept of session-based co-op shooter," where players are tasked with working together to survive an overwhelming onslaught of some sort.

Since Project U is only just about to enter one of its earliest playtesting phases, Ubisoft is being rather selective in regard to what information it's sharing with its potential testers. Unlike the PvPvE The Division: Heartland, which is mostly a known quantity by now, Project U is far more mysterious. Interested players can sign up using the official Ubisoft game page, and though everyone is welcome to do so, it's worth pointing out that only players from Western Europe will be eligible for joining during this specific phase of playtesting.

Curiously, Project U had no presence whatsoever at this year's Ubisoft Forward showcase, though this isn't necessarily surprising, depending on just how early in development the game might be. With virtually no media shared and nothing short of the basic gameplay pitch showing up on the website, Ubisoft is deliberately looking not to attract extremely widespread attention just yet, and it's quite feasible that the official reveal won't be happening for a long while still.

The single piece of attached media is somewhat unremarkable, too, but it does seem to suggest that Project U is about dealing with a machine threat of sorts. The showcased drones look somewhat similar to the ones appearing in Ubisoft's Ghost Recon Breakpoint, and it's certainly not impossible that the two games are somehow connected to one another.

While discussing Project U, it may be wise to make a distinction between it and Ubisoft's Project Q and its NFT controversy. Namely, Project Q is a team battle arena game that will somehow leverage Ubisoft's NFT technology. Whether Project U ends up using NFTs remains yet to be seen, but the feature is unlikely to be very important during its earliest playtesting beta, anyway.

Project U is currently in development by Ubisoft.
