Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4 is one of the anticipated movies from Marvel Studios. Following its official announcement, there have been non-stop conversations about who will be the villain in the film and the actor rumored to play the big bad role breaks their silence.

Holland's Spider-Man is one of the most successful franchises in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Holland initially signed to star in a trilogy —Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). However, due to the success of his last film, Marvel and Sony agreed to have the actor again for another Spider-Man solo movie. Holland will don his Spidey suit once more in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. There are various rumors about its villains. Some claimed it would have a female villain. However, there was a new round of rumors after Holland dropped the official title of the upcoming movie. Now, there are speculations that Mr. Negative will be the big bad since he is the supervillain in the comics.

Stephen Oyoung, who voices Mr. Negative in the video game Marvel's Spider-Man (2018) and Spider-Man 2 (2023), has been rumored to play the big bad in Spider-Man 4. Oyoung's performance has opened doors for him because fans love how he portrayed the character in the video game. In a recent interview with 4GQTV, the actor admitted that he was "humbly grateful." He was amazed by how many people contacted him following the fan-casting rumors. According to him, people used to talk about Steven Yeun and Daniel Day Kim, and now he was hearing, "Oh yeah, let's get the video game actor." Since there has been no official announcement yet, many wonder if Oyoung has any idea about him potentially joining the film. The voice actor hinted that he had some ideas, but Sony Pictures has not reached out to him yet. However, he is thrilled about the possibility of him joining Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He said:

I know nothing. I have not been contacted by Sony. Let me just say I know certain things, but as far as contacting me, that is yet to manifest itself.

Oyoung acknowledged that the rumors linking his character to a Spider-Man movie project started "three or four years ago." Initially, he wasn't really into it, thinking maybe it was just made. However, this time, he had a change of heart because "now it feels very serious." Although his future in the upcoming MCU film remains uncertain, Oyoung is hopeful that Mr. Negative will return, probably in another game or media format. However, he isn't sure if he will still play the role or if it will be given to someone new.

I have sort of a nebulous idea, but I also kind of have no idea. Marvel, and gaming, and Sony. There are so many big parts. There is so much machinery to this that even if I did know, I couldn't tell you if I wanted to. What I can say, though, is, again, I am hopeful, very, very hopeful. Personally, I think there is a pretty good chance you will see Mr. Negative in the future in some sort of media, whether it is me or not.

Oyoung's portrayal of Mr. Negative in the Spider-Man games is well-received. Fans loved the emotional depth and complexity he brought to the layered character. Martin Li is a wealthy man and philanthropist. He uses his resources to support those in need. However, his ruthless persona comes to the surface as Mr. Negative when he uses his extra-dimensional energy powers to lead a criminal empire. Mr. Negative can be visually and emotionally intense and Oyoung has managed to deliver this in his previous portrayals. Also, it only makes sense to cast him for the role in Spider-Man 4 should they feature the character because he has already defined Mr. Negative for many fans through the games.

Also, he has the talent and physical skills to portray the role in live-action. Oyoung is a veteran actor and stunt performer. He has a background in martial arts and stunt coordination, so there's no doubt that he can pull off any action scenes required from his character. He is also a brilliant talent who previously appeared in NCIS, Insecure, CSI: Cyber, and movies like Terminator: Dark Fate. He recently appeared in the action thriller Twisters (204). Although his performance was not a focal point, his presence added energy and ensemble dynamic. He is also part of Tom Cruise's upcoming action thriller Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which is coming out next month. Oyoung has the talent, experience, and expertise to be Mr. Negative in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Hopefully, he can bring the character to the big screen.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
