Peacock's Twisted Metal was a surprise hit

When Peacock’s Twisted Metal hit the streaming service, it ended up being one of the biggest surprises of the season. The 10-episode show was fun and jaunty and it appears that Peacock higher-ups realized they had a hit on their hands. Now the big challenge is finding a way to make the second season something people will want to go back to after a decent layoff.

Hardcore fans of the video games that inspired the series as well as newcomers learning about Twisted Metal for the first time got to see Anthony Mackie take on the role of John Doe and Stephanie Beatrix in the role of Quiet form what is at first an uneasy partnership. As the series goes on they embark on a country-wide race across the post-apocalyptic United States. During that trek across the country, the two characters come across a massive roster of characters, most of which are based on characters in those video games. That included one of the most popular video game characters of all time in Sweet Tooth, the killer clown.

What Is Twisted Metal About?

As the first season of Twisted Metal wound to a close, there were several storylines that all started to come together. Things start to come to a head once John realizes that he’s fallen in love with Quiet and that the pair, after getting off to a start that wasn’t much of a friendship at all, However, as the season went along the two realized that they wanted to be together, even if neither was wanting admit it at one time or another.

As John (who has suffered a kind of amnesia that stops him from remembering very little about his life before the end of the world) and Quiet travel around the country they across a by the book (though it’s a twisted book) lawman Agent Stone who Thomas Haden Church plays and they meet and just barely escape Sweet Tooth (played by Samoa Joe). After an epic showdown with the lawman and the killer clown John is allowed to enter one of the world’s walled cities, San Francisco which Neve Campbell’s Raven rules over.

How Does Twisted Metal Season 1 End?

After a round about path that saw John run afoul of several different people and gangs out on the wasteland while he ran an important errand for Raven, he returns to San Francisco, looking to cash in on the promise that he can hang up his driving gloves and live in the walled city that is essentially paradise compared to everything out there.

When John comes back to San Francisco, Raven is ready to honor their agreement. However, she isn’t willing to allow Quiet to come with him. While John wanted to stay with his star crossed lover, Quiet understands what’s best for him is to gain access to the city. In order to force Raven’s hand, she shoots John in the shoulder, forcing Raven’s security team to take him into San Francisco to deliver medical care.

Raven isn’t doing this out of the goodness of her heart. It’s also divulged that the errand she had John go on for her was more of a test than anything else. The item he was transporting was Rocky Road ice cream, but she was testing John because she wanted him to join a new kind of tournament that was taking place all across the wasteland. Unsurprisingly this new tournament is called the Twisted Metal tournament.

John is furious that the job he undertook was actually just a test and originally refuses to take part in the tournament. However, despite trying to leave San Francisco he’s kept inside the city walls by Raven using several different means, including setting him up with fake friends. However, he still has a great desire to go and find Quiet, even if she shot him.

His continued fight to find Quiet leads to the final scene that she takes part in for the first season of Twisted Metal. She is confronted by a person known as Dollface, who also is a character in the video game. In the show, Dollface happens to be the sister of John Doe and she’s been on the hunt for her brother for most of the show (though the viewer doesn’t know that until the final moments of the season finale. Dollface and her army of soldiers known as Dolls corner Quiet and it’s clear she wants to be led to John. She knows Quiet and John recently went on an epic adventure together, but what exactly she wants the duo remains a mystery. There is a chance that she she just wants to be reunited with her long-lost brother out of love. It’s also possible her real motive is revenge on the brother she feels abandoned her and his family 20 years prior.
