- The potential for a new Twilight Zone movie presents the opportunity to bring classic episodes to life with smart, haunting twists.
The Twilight Zone is one of the most riveting and well-known sci-fi TV series, and not only is a new movie reportedly on the way, but the film could have a fascinating director.
While Twilight Zone: The Movie was released in 1983, the original TV series created by Rod Serling had a much bigger pop culture impact than this film adaptation. Serling wrote the most memorable and haunting episodes of the sci-fi series, which aired from 1959 to 1964. There was even a scary and intense episode based on the Stephen King story "Gramma," which Harlan Ellison penned. Although Jordan Peele made a reboot that premiered in 2019 and aired for two seasons, it didn't make as much of an impact as the original show. Now fans could get a brand new movie, and they're going to want to hear who could direct it.

Ben Stiller Is Reportedly Interested In Directing A Twilight Zone Movie
According to Jeff Sneider.com (via The Insneider), Ben Stiller is reportedly directing a new The Twilight Zone movie. This film is being produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and has been in the works for over a decade.
As it turns out, this Twilight Zone movie has a lengthy history. As noted by Sneider, DiCaprio is producing the movie via his company Appian Way. In 2008, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Appian Way and Warner Bros. Were interested in hearing story pitches. In 2011, Matt Reeves was brought on as director. That didn't work out, and then Anthony Peckham was going to write the screenplay. Then, in 2013, Variety that Warner Bros. Was talking to Joseph Kosinski about directing it, and Aron Eli Coleite was attached as a writer. Before Christine Lavaf was hired as a writer in 2017, Joby Harold and Rand Ravich worked on drafts of the movie.
While many The Batman fans would have been pleased to see Reeves direct The Twilight Zone, it's also interesting to imagine Ben Stiller behind the camera. Besides his successful acting career, he's best known for his work as an executive producer and director on the hit AppleTV+ series Severance, which could have spinoffs and a video game. He has also produced countless movies, including many that he starred in, including Zoolander.
At the time of this writing, it's unclear what the main storyline of the Twilight Zone movie would be, or if it would have a stand-alone plot or a series of interconnected tales. It would be fun to see some of the most well-known episodes brought to life, including "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet," a popular episode starring William Shatner as a man terrified of a monster on a plane. There are several episodes about aliens that could be adapted, and hopefully the movie will feature some of the show's smart, haunting twists.
Besides working on Severance season 3, Stiller is playing Hal L in Happy Gilmore 2, which will be released in theaters on July 25th, 2025. Many fans will be thrilled to revisit the silly world of the Adam Sandler comedy. He is also starring in the upcoming pickleball comedy The Dink alongside Mary Steenburgen, Ed Harris, and Jake Johnson.
