Trials of Mana, Square Enix's remake of the 1995 Super Famicom title of the same name, launched at the end of April to a warm critical reception. An action-RPG, Trials of Mana has six different protagonists, though the player only controls three at a time.

Hidden Abilities

Not all abilities are earned automatically however, and there are a lot of Chain Abilities that can only be unlocked by reaching special conditions. For those players who want their team at full strength, here's a complete list of how to unlock them.

  • Jadd Noble: Gives a simple +10 MP, and is unlocked by talking to Jadd in his Jadd Stronghold prison.
  • Watts Blacksmith: Gives a 5% boost to all gear stats in battle, and is gained by paying Watts 5000 on his first meeting with the player. This can't be done later.
  • Hero King: Makes battle victories boost the Class Strike gauge by 5%, and is unlocked by speaking with the Hero King in Valsena with Duran in the party.
  • Bruiser: Boosts attack when using Class Strikes, and is gained by speaking to Bruiser in Valsena with Duran in the party.
  • Stella: Boosts healing items by 10%, and is unlocked by speaking to the woman in Duran's Valsena house, without Duran in the party.
  • Fortune-Teller: Halves the duration of status effects, and is unlocked by talking to the fortune-teller in Valsena after rescuing the Hero King.
15 Trials of Mana
  • Von Boyage: Boosts power attack damage by 5%, and is gained by speaking to Von Boyage on the way to Beiser.
  • Aurora Sisters: Boosts magic attack by 5%, and is unlocked by watching the Aurora Sisters perform their dance in Beiser.
  • Trader: Gives a 20% chance to block debuffs, and is gained by speaking to the trader by the cage in Beiser's Night Market while Reisz is in the party.
  • Tomatoman: Pay 30% of the MP cost of spells with HP instead, and is unlocked by speaking to the tomatoman near the healing totem in Tomatoman Village.
  • Ludgar: Boosts damage to bosses by 10%, and is gained by beating Ludgar near Chartmoon Tower with Kevin in the party.
  • Elfin Elder: Decreases enemy respawn rate, and is unlocked by talking to the Elfin Elder during the story, but only if Charlotte is in the party.
  • Cactus: Characters start battle with 200% CS, and is unlocked by finding Cactus in all 50 of his hiding spots.
