Transformers: Reactivate has been officially canceled by Splash Damage. At The Game Awards 2022, Transformers fans were greeted with a cryptic trailer for Transformers: Reactivate, a 1-4 player online title that would have seen the Autobots and Decepticons band together to fend off a new alien threat on Earth. Developer Splash Damage is known for its work on the multiplayer components of popular titles like Gears 5 and Batman: Arkham Origins, and some players were interested to see what the studio would bring to the beloved Transformers brand.

Splash Damage has announced that Transformers: Reactivate has been canceled after a lengthy and troubled development period. In a message posted on the Splash Damage Twitter page, the developer explained that choosing to halt the game's development was not an easy decision, and that doing so means that some members of staff could potentially be let go due to redundancies as it refocuses on other projects.

Splash Damage Cancels Transformers: Reactivate After Nearly Three Years

In its Transformers: Reactivate cancelation announcement, Splash Damage took the time to thank the team that worked on the ultimately unreleased title for their dedication, as well as Transformers owner Hasbro for its support throughout the game’s development. Reactions to the latest Transformers: Reactivation news have been mixed, with some fans disappointed that it won’t be released and others having already guessed that the game would be scrapped due to the lack of news from Splash Damage following the initial TGA 2022 trailer.

In March 2023, Splash Damage announced that it was working alongside streamers Shroud and Sacriel to develop “Project Astrid,” a triple-A open-world survival game being built with Unreal Engine 5. Now that the development of Transformers: Reactivate has been discontinued, it seems that Splash Damage will shift its resources toward “Project Astrid,” but there will still be layoffs among the former’s staff in light of its cancellation. Meanwhile, Transformers fans are still left waiting for a new triple-A experience featuring Hasbro’s iconic Robots in Disguise.
