Torchlight: Infinite, while free to play, offers players premium aspects that can be purchased to improve gameplay, making it easier for gamers. One of these aspects is the Pets or Pactspirits System. Players must use the Boon system and Jagged Primocryst currency to use the Pet System.
Pets alter a player's Pact and function like passive skill trees. They provide various stat buffs, which can include Loot bonuses. Receiving duplicates of any Pactspirits will result in greater bonuses and points, further increasing the Pact. There are several ways in which players can obtain the in-game currency to obtain Pets. Currently, there are daily bonus features, and, as expected, there is a premium version of Primocrysts that can be purchased for cash. For those who wish to fully use the Pactspirit System in Torchlight: Infinite, this guide will explain it in detail.
General Information
When players begin, there is a base Pact layout that all players have. Adding Pets will change this. Bonuses are very different from pet to pet, so players will have to carefully read each one before selecting to ensure they get the best option for what they want to achieve. Three can be added at one time to the Pactspirit tree for a combination of bonuses.
One of the primary ways to obtain pets is through purchase from a Boon using Jagged Primocrysts or Insight Crystals. This in-game currency can be obtained through various bonuses. When players run out, they can purchase the premium version. Once a Pet is obtained from the Boon, it is on the player's account forever.
Types Of Pactspirits
Pactspirits come in different rarities and categories, making the decision on which ones the player wants to add to their tree slightly more difficult. A Magic Pactspirit will affect the inner ring of the Pactspirit tree. A Rare Pactspirit will affect the inner and middle rings. A Legendary Pactspirit will affect all three rings.
There are also six categories of Pactspirits, which will affect the benefits they offer players. These categories are the following:
- Attack
- Spell
- Persistent
- Summon
- Drops
- Survival
Getting Pactspirits Through Boons
A Pactspirit Boon is guaranteed to give a player a Pactspirit. However, which option they choose will affect which type they receive. There are several types of Boons that can be used to obtain a Pactspirit, including the special ones associated with the current Season.
The other Pactspirit Boons include the following:
- Tagged Pactspirit Boon: Increases the player's chance of receiving a Pet with a selected Tag. They can select from the Tag list to boost their chance by 50% to receive a Pet with that Tag.
- Featured Pactspirit Boon: Players can apply a Rate Up to any of the displayed Legendary Pactspirits. By doing this, they will receive their chosen one for every 2 Legendary Pactspirits they receive. They must have Ceremonial Insight Crystals for this Boon.
- Regular Pactspirit Boon: Players can be rewarded with any available Pet except for the Season Exclusive. This Boon requires Insight Crystals. There is no Rate Up allowed for this Boon.
Allocating Skills
Once players have chosen their Pets and placed them on their Pactspirit trees, they will need to allocate the skills they want to boost. Players will add their Pets to the socket on the tree they choose, and then their effects will be available as Pact Points that they must allocate.
Players may want to use a Pet for its effects on one specific ring but not the others. They will need to restore the base effects of the Node while the Pet remains in the socket. They can then click on the Node they want to change, selecting the Switch button, which allows them to choose between the available effects.
How To Rank Up A Pet
Once a Pet is added to a player's collection, any future copies of the Pet grant the player an Insignia for that specific Pet. These Insignias are used for upgrades. Each one can upgrade the Pet by one level. The maximum number of times a Pet can be upgraded is six times.
It's a wise choice to use these Insignias as soon as they are received since they can only be used on the specific Pet they are a duplicate of. Players will quickly find that the rarity of a Pet does not always determine how effective it is. A Magic-type Pet can offer more powerful bonuses at Rank 6 than a Legendary-type Pet at Rank 1.
The Pactspirit Tree
Like many of the other menus in Torchlight: Infinite, the Pactspirit Tree isn't just one tree. It has three separate trees that are unlocked based on the player's game level. The first tree is unlocked at level 10 during Chapter One. It focuses on survival and boosting the player's defense.
The second tree isn't unlocked until the player reaches level 20. Its focus shifts to damage output, increasing the player's offensive skills. The final tree is unlocked at level 30 and focuses on drops. All three trees have the same basic mechanics in which players will allocate their Pact Points to select which skills they want to enhance.
Torchlight: Infinite is available now on Android, iOS, and PC.
