Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has narrowed down its release window, targeting a Spring 2026 release. The new release window came alongside a look at Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream's gameplay, giving players a better idea of what to expect.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream marks the third entry to the series, but the first game didn't release outside of Japan, so this is only the second game to arrive in the west. The last entry arrived on the Nintendo 3DS 12 years ago, so Tomodachi Life fans have been waiting for a follow-up for a long time. Though the game was previously revealed by Nintendo, this new look has given a better idea of what the game will look like and what new features are being added to the latest entry.
September's Switch 2 Direct Didn't End the Wait For a New Animal Crossing, But It Brought the Next Best Thing
Sadly, Nintendo is still being tight-lipped about the next Animal Crossing, but a recently announced game might just fill the void.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Gives Look at Gameplay
During the September Nintendo Direct, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream revealed a short trailer that announced that the game has narrowed its release window from all of 2026 to Spring 2026. The game will launch on the Nintendo Switch, and will be backward-compatible on the Switch 2. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream will let players populate their new island with Miis that they can customize however they like. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream detailed the Mii character builder, which lets players customize their Miis quite a bit, including changing their ears, a detail Miis previously lacked. Players can also expect to choose Miis' voices, which lets players choose from Speed, Pitch, Depth, Delivery, and Tone, to their personality, with sliders for Movement, Speech, Energy, Thinking, and Overall.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream showed off a bit of how players will be able to control and direct their Miis. One example showed feeding a hungry Mii, and then revealed a screen showing their happiness level, hunger, loves, likes, and dislikes. Further, the next game appears to be tackling an issue some gamers had with the prior entry, allowing players to intervene and cause two Miis to interact directly, rather than hoping that the Miis interact on their own. Some additional glimpses teased things like Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream's mini-games, the island environments, and silly ways of interacting with Miis.
With several games still arriving for Switch and Switch 2 in 2025, it may be a bit before Nintendo sheds more light on this coming title. Thankfully, though, players now know that their wait for the game won't extend beyond Spring 2026, so they don't have too much longer to get their hands on Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream.
