In Tears of the Kingdom, despite the myriad changes that have occurred in Hyrule since Breath of the Wild, Link will still encounter many familiar characters on his journey. Among them is the Horse God Malanya, who continues to reside in the soothing waters of his fountain deep in the Akkala region. Link can pay a visit to this sacred site and present offerings to Malanya, hoping to gain the deity's benevolence and aid in his ongoing adventure.

In Tears of the Kingdom, Link is once again able to bring fallen horses back to life through the intervention of the Horse God Malanya, just like he could in Breath of the Wild. However, in the series' new installment, Malanya's magnanimity bounds further by granting Link the ability to improve the ability of many of the game's horses. This allows the player to upgrade nearly any horse into the epitome of equine excellence, ensuring that no horse is left behind.

This much-welcomed feature allows players to have the best horseback experience while still using the horse of their choosing. Here's everything players need to know about summoning Malanya the Horse God and receiving his blessings in Tears of the Kingdom.

How to Summon Malanya in Tears of the Kingdom

To summon the Horse God Malanya, players must venture to the sacred grounds of the Malanya Spring at coordinates 4294, 3211, 0151, situated north of Bloodleaf Lake in the Deep Akkala region. They can start their journey by making their way to the East Akkala Stable or fast traveling to the nearby Jochi-iu Shrine.

From there, they should follow the road that winds through the scenic North Akkala Foothills, eventually reaching a split in the cliffs at coordinates 4203, 2883, 0148 leading to Bloodleaf Lake. They should continue past the lake until reaching a small bridge at coordinates 4280, 3112, 0149 which leads to a large, strange plant surrounded by purple mist on a small island within a spring.

Link should approach and examine the strange bud, from which a large hand emerges and demands a single Endura Carrot. When Link aids its call, the bud opens and the Horse God Malanya will emerge from the spring beneath.

Malanya possesses the remarkable ability to both revive fallen horses and upgrade Link's stabled horses. However, these extraordinary powers come at a cost. Reviving a horse requires Link to provide Malanya with Endura Carrots, while horse upgrades demand an assortment of distinct cooked dishes.

How to Revive Horses with the Horse God Malanya

Horses can be revived by offering Malanya a Roasted Endura Carrot for each horse Link wishes to revive. Link can prepare a Roasted Endura Carrot by holding an Endura Carrot then tossing it onto an open fire. Players should be sure to pick up the carrot promptly once it becomes roasted, so the ingredient is not destroyed. These carrots hold great value on their own as a highly beneficial ingredient often employed by Link in the creation of stamina-enhancing food and elixirs.

Malanya is only able to revive horses that have been registered at a stable. Unfortunately, unregistered horses cannot be revived, so it is important for the player to visit a stable and register any horse with whom they would like to form a lasting bond. Once Link has provided the required offering, the revived horse will appear right in front of Link.

Where to get Endura Carrots

There are several locations where Link can regularly acquire Endura Carrots. They can be found near every one of Hyrule’s eight Cherry Blossom trees, where players can make an offering to Satori, the God of the Mountain. Southwest of Satori Mountain, players can find a small patch of Endura Carrot at Rutile Lake, at coordinates -2483, -0622, -0201. Additionally, once the farmland in Hateno Village has been unlocked, Link can also cultivate and grow his own Endura Carrots.

Horses can be upgraded by providing Malanya with specific cooked dishes depending on the statistics the player wishes to improve. Certain horses cannot be upgraded, including a select few unique horses such as the Giant Horse (Ganon’s Horse).

  • Upgradeable Horses: Any wild horse, Spot, Royal White Stallion, Golden Horse
  • Non-Upgradeable Horses: Epona, Giant White Stallion, Giant Horse

In Tears of the Kingdom, every horse possesses four distinct abilities; except for Epona, who cannot Pull. Each ability is represented by a star rating ranging from one to five. These abilities include Strength, Speed, Stamina, and Pull.

All horses that are capable of being upgraded can have each of these stats raised to a maximum of five stars. This means that, unlike in Breath of the Wild, players can use nearly any horse they’d like without any downsides, provided you have the materials necessary to upgrade its abilities.
