Harry Bosch has always been surrounded by great detectives like Jerry Edgar, Crate and Barrel, and many more. However, he'll come up against his most formidable ally in Bosch: Legacy's final season, in the shape of cold case investigator, Renee Ballard, who is just as relentless as Bosch is. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Titus Welliver teased Bosch and Ballard's dynamic in Bosch: Legacy:
In one of the last episodes of this final season, we introduce the character of Renée Ballard, played brilliantly by Maggie Q. She’s younger than Harry is. They cross paths and in the books, because obviously, you’ve got more time and there have been several books written with the two of them working together, they forge a relationship.
Titus Welliver's pre-cancelation comments likened the Bosch and Ballard dynamic to Batman and Robin, and also revealed that his role in the Ballard spin-off would actually be glorified cameos, which is disappointing to fans of the books, which featured both characters prominently. Having said that, it'll be great to see them join forces to solve one of Bosch's 'white whale' cases.

Titus Welliver's Recent Comments Could Reveal What He Really Thinks About The Bosch: Legacy Ballard Spin-Off
The relationship forged between Harry Bosch and Renee Ballard was established in Michael Connelly's book series, and the fans are looking forward to seeing this carry over into the television universe. However, Welliver's recent interview hints at a tinge of sadness that this team-up won't be realized in quite the same way as it was in the books:
He has sort of paternal feelings for her. It’s a beautifully realized relationship in the books. Now, in 45 or 50 minutes of an episode you can only do so much, but Maggie and I had really good chemistry. We fast became friends, and I think the introduction to her character is really, really strong.
Titus Welliver's comments are smart, because he's promoting the introduction of Renee Ballard by saying it's 'really strong', while also pointing out that Harry Bosch's relationship with her might not get the coverage it deserves. One standalone episode in Bosch: Legacy's final season and three cameo appearances in the upcoming spin-off are unlikely to give Bosch and Ballard's team-up the chance to thrive like it did in Connelly's books. It feels like Welliver is sending a message to the fans to support the Ballard spin-off, while also showing them the importance of Harry Bosch in the Bosch-verse's future. In an interview with Collider prior to the cancelation of Bosch: Legacy, Welliver stated:
You can't do Robin without having Batman.
Amazon is doing Robin without Batman, and it doesn't sound like Titus Welliver is very happy about that. The Harry Bosch star has also been waxing lyrical about the Save Bosch: Legacy petition to save the show, with so many more stories left to tell featuring the character. Bosch: Legacy's final season has been well-received by fans and critics, and while Renee Ballard's upcoming introduction is very exciting, one episode doesn't really do their dynamic justice.
