Tiny Tina's Wonderlands enjoyed quite a bit of success ever since it launched almost a month ago, garnering many fans among Borderlands players with the appeal of Borderlands 2's Assault on Dragon Keep DLC. The game is possibly a step-up in many ways for Gearbox, with a deep Wonderlands character creation and customization process that allows players to make their own Fatemaker instead of choosing from a set of Vault Hunters. Furthermore, it builds on the already chaotic gameplay of the Borderlands series by throwing spells into the mix in place of the classic grenades.
This renewed approach to a mixed fantasy setting with guns does Tiny Tina's Wonderlands a great service, as it feels like an improved version of the original Tiny Tina-focused DLC for the second game of the Borderlands franchise. On top of that, the game offers an endgame experience in the form of farming Chaos Chambers for loot, which is a fantastic way to deal with content that could possibly feel repetitive to play. Tomorrow, not even a full month into its release, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands' first DLC will launch worldwide, and its trailer didn't quite hit the mark among fans.
Yesterday, Gearbox officially revealed the content of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands' first DLC, Coiled Captors, through a trailer that seems to focus on the new dungeon and its final boss. Because the DLC itself seems to only feature a dungeon and new loot, players are now wondering if this is cut content from the base game that's being repurposed for a paid release. The problem is that this type of content has been released for free for Borderlands 3, with events like Bloody Harvest and Revenge of the Cartels offering more than Coiled Captors seems to do.
Coiled Captors also doesn't look like a story DLC for Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, which could mean no additional zone where players can collect Loot Dice, Scrolls, Marbles, and freely explore. Instead, it seems the only new area is the dungeon itself, which could feel like more of the same after a few runs, especially since there are no new enemy types being introduced in Coiled Captors. Players are also left wondering if there will be any sort of increase to the level cap or the level of Chaos Chambers, which is something the trailer and the official website don't mention.
Tiny Tina's Wonderlands' content for the Coiled Captors DLC is not necessarily bad, but players are under the impression that it could have been much more than just a dungeon with new loot. Still, fans are now waiting for the patch notes to come out and see if there are good changes included with the DLC coming their way, as those would partly make up for the seemingly disappointing reveal.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
