The Morticulturalist Pet Build

This build is all about buffing the companions provided by the Graveborn and Spore Warden Classes, allowing them to deal tremendous damage and supply useful secondary effects. The build also uses an assortment of Kill Skills to provide temporary additional allies in the form of Dark Hydras, and buffs to spells, alongside further companion buffs.

The key skills for this build are Faithful Thralls (Graveborn Tier 1), Harvest (Graveborn Tier 2), and Kindred Heart (Spore Warden Tier 1). These skills provide massive buffs to the attack and defense power of the Demi-Lich and Mushroom Companions, allowing them to deal out considerable damage while drawing enemy fire. Harvest also allows these companions to recover some health for the player via dark magic damage.

Spore Cloud (Spore Warden Tier 2) and Medicinal Mushroom (Spore Warden Tier 3) allow the Mushroom Companion to taunt enemies with a poisonous cloud and revive the Fatemaker should they enter Save Your Soul Mode, turning it into a fantastic support pet. Meanwhile, grabbing Punishment (Graveborn Tier 4) and Dread Covenant (Graveborn Tier 3) allows the Demi-Lich to take some damage on behalf of the Fatemaker, while also sometimes dishing out extra elemental damage whenever a spell is cast.

Spells are the other main focus of this build. Skills like Blast Gasp (Graveborn Tier 5) and Essence Drain (Graveborn Tier 1) allow the Morticulturalist to dish out tons of elemental damage and recharge their spells much faster than other builds can.

Thrill of the Hunt (Spore Warden Tier 4) and Quiver of Holding (Spore Warden Tier 3) are useful for further buffing companion damage while also ensuring the Fatemaker never runs low on ammo. Shooting is always a good way of dealing some extra damage, and being accurate and aiming for critical zones on enemies will allow players to keep applying the Thrill of the Hunt buff with every shot.

Bullseye (Spore Warden Tier 2) is also useful for maintaining the Thrill of the Hunt Buff and strengthening pets, while Mortal Vessel (Graveborn Tier 1) improves the Fatemaker's survivability on the off-chance something gets past their companions and attacks them. Finally, Dark Hydra (Graveborn Tier 3) adds to the chaos by giving a 60% chance of spawning a Dark Hydra whenever an enemy is killed (3 Hydra can exist at once). Dark Hydra will spit dark magic blasts at nearby enemies for 10 seconds before vanishing.

Stats (Backstory: Failed Monk)

  • Strength: 20. Critical Damage is useful in this build, since several skills rely on scoring critical hits.
  • Dexterity: 20. Critical Chance is highly valuable for triggering effects such as Thrill of the Hunt, and this 20% improved critical chance stacks well with the buff from Bullseye.
  • Intelligence: 30. Having extra spell recharge is excellent for dishing out additional elemental damage and regularly triggering the Demi-Lich's Hellish Blast attack.
  • Wisdom: 16. This build deals a decent amount of elemental damage, so taking some points in Wisdom will improve the damage over time from these attacks.
  • Constitution: 20. 25% extra max health/ward is great for keeping the Fatemaker alive longer, and pairs well with the double companions to keep the Fatemaker from taking too much damage.
  • Attunement: 10. This build doesn't really focus on the use of action skills or heavy ability damage, though this could potentially boost the damage of Dark Hydra.

  • Tier 1: Mortal Vessel (5/5): Grants a 15% increase to maximum health and dark magic efficiency, making the Fatemaker more durable and allowing for better life draining from dark magic.
  • Tier 1: Essence Drain (5/5): Grants a 25% Spell Cooldown Speed boost whenever an enemy is killed, lasting for 12 seconds. This is very useful for making consistent use of powerful spells, which often have long cooldowns.
  • Tier 1: Faithful Thralls (3/3): Grants companions a 9% damage bonus per companion (18% with both companions) and also speeds up their respawn rate after death by 45%, keeping the Mushroom and Demi-Lich companions active for much longer.

  • Tier 4: Punishment (1/1): Whenever the Demi-Lich uses Hellish Blast (An elemental projectile attack triggered whenever the Fatemaker casts a spell) there is a 20% chance of the Demi-Lich immediately using Hellish Blast again.
  • Tier 5: Blast Gasp (5/5): Adds a 20% chance to cause an elemental explosion whenever the Fatemaker deals spell damage, which deals 50% of the spell's damage as ability damage and cannot critically hit.
