The Mistdancer is the name given to a combination of Stabbomancer and Spore Warden, two of the six classes available in Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. The Mistdancer has access to a wide range of skills that assist them in mobility and critical damage, and these builds offer up some great ways to get the most out of them.
In this Borderlands spin-off, Tiny Tina stages a new game of Bunkers & Badasses, an event that sees players going on a journey to challenge the Dragonlord. Like the main entries, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is a first-person looter-shooter.
Updated on July 28, 2022, by Thomas Hawkins: Gearbox Software's 2022 action RPG Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is now available on Steam, and several DLC have already been released; the options available for a Spore Warden Stabbomancer Build have never been greater. This Mistdancer Build guide now features an alternative build taking great advantage of elemental status effects, in addition to the original speedy ranged build.
Mistdancer Ranged Build
This build focuses heavily on the Spore Warden skill tree, grabbing skills from it all the way up to the capstone skill, Play the Angles. It also grabs skills from Stabbomancer, which enhance its ability to deal damage and cripple the enemy's defenses. It focuses on maximizing critical hit rate and critical damage while also enhancing movement speed, turning the Mistdancer into a lightning-fast death-dealing badass that can deal tremendous damage at a range and even deal short bursts of tremendous melee damage in a pinch.
The build uses skills that increase the Mistdancer's movement speed and critical rate while rendering enemies more vulnerable to their attacks and blasting them away with rapid-fire weapons.
Two important skills in this build are Bullseye (Tier 2 Spore Warden) and Headhunter (Tier 5 Spore Warden). Bullseye increases the critical hit chance of the player's gun attacks, along with the critical hit chance of the Spore Warden's mushroom companion. Paired with the Stabbomancer's class feat, Dirty Fighting, to further increase critical chance, maxing out Bullseye increases the critical chance of the player's gun attacks by a colossal 80%. Headhunter increases the damage the player deals with their guns to the critical areas of enemies. A critical area is any area on a creature that the player scores an automatic critical hit for attacking and is typically the head on humanoid foes. This makes precision shots all the more deadly and is excellent for picking off stronger targets from a distance.
Later on, taking two ranks of Sneak Attack (Stabbomancer Tier 4) will increase all critical chance by 6%, making this build's base critical chance for gun attacks before considering hero stats a massive 86%. With a dexterity score of at least 16 to gain additional critical chance, this build can easily hit a 100% critical chance for gun attacks, and raising dexterity higher will improve the odds for other attack types as well.
Taking five ranks of Arsenal (Stabbomancer Tier 1) is also useful, as it increases damage dealt by guns, melee, and spells by 15% each, making the Mistdancer's damage all the higher. Nimble Fingers (Stabbomancer Tier 3) and Follow-Up (Stabbomancer Tier 2) work well together to help keep the Mistdancer's damage high. Nimble Fingers increases their fire rate by 12% and spell damage by 16% for a short time after hitting with a melee attack, while Follow-Up generates a stacking buff to melee damage whenever players hit an enemy with gun damage (6% extra damage per stack, caps at 10 stacks).
The skill Windrunner (Spore Warden Tier 3) is a kill skill that grants a buff to movement speed and fire rate whenever an enemy is killed by the Mistdancer. This buff can stack twice, with each stack granting +12% movement speed and +12% fire rate for 15 seconds. This pairs nicely with Elusive (Stabbomancer Tier 4), which grants the Mistdancer a 10% chance to completely evade incoming damage whenever they are moving at normal walking speed, allows them to shoot while sprinting and increases the chance of evasion based on their speed. This is especially useful since the build doesn't have any other skills that boost defense.
This build also utilizes the Wrath of Nature skill (Spore Warden Tier 5), which allows it to render enemies vulnerable to attack whenever they are hit with ability damage by the Mistdancer. This can be easily accomplished using the Barrage or Blizzard action skills from Spore Warden or the Ghost Blade action skill from Stabbomancer. Exploit Their Weakness (Stabbomancer Tier 2) allows the Mistdancer to further render foes vulnerable by inflicting status effects, such as slow and frozen, which are inflicted by Blizzard's cold damage cyclones or the elemental damage from a spell or weapon. Since this effect stacks for each type of status effect inflicted, players can quickly cut through even powerful foes by building up this effect.
The Spore Warden Capstone Skill Play the Angles adds a chance for any critical hit with a gun to ricochet to an additional target, dealing a reduced amount of ability damage whenever it does so. Paired with the 86% critical chance this build sports for gun attacks, there is a tremendous likelihood of the battlefield turning into a storm of bullets. Acquiring a blackpowder weapon (which has its own inherent "ricochet on crit" effect) can make this outcome even more likely.
Here's a breakdown of this build's stats and skills at level 40:
Stats
- Strength: 38 - This stat should be top priority after getting dexterity to 16, granting an increase to damage dealt by all crits.
- Dexterity: 30 - Getting this stat to 16 as early as possible is important for achieving the 100% gun critical hit chance. Enhancing it further later on will help deal extra damage with other attacks.
- Intelligence: 8 - This build isn't hugely focused on spells, but it doesn't hurt to put a point or two into this to slightly improve spell cooldown times.
- Wisdom: 15 - This skill is useful for elemental weapons and spells, adding some extra damage to them. Since applying elemental status effects regularly is important for this build, getting Wisdom to 15 can be very handy.
- Constitution: 12 - This skill is useful to put a few points into early on just to help soak up an extra hit or two if the enemy manages to land them, but this build thrives on moving quickly and strategically to avoid damage in the first place.
- Attunement: 15 - Having a faster action skill cooldown is very useful for this build, as it allows players to make use of Blizzard to apply status effects and trigger Wrath of Nature more consistently.

Mistdancer Melee Status Effect Build
This alternate build takes advantage of the huge number of Stabbomancer skills that enhance the effectiveness of status effects in order to deal high damage. It also makes use of melee critical hits to inflict additional status effects and skills to enhance damage from all sources. It also dips into Spore Warden to improve its critical hit capability and provide some companion-based utility. With solid melee weapons to back up its skills and stats, this build can cripple enemies and build up momentum quickly.
This build works best with the "From The Shadows" action skill, allowing it to inflict consistent critical hits and keep building up damage and status effects.
Stats (Backstory: Raised By Elves)
- Strength: 23 (While this build does deal regular critical hits, there are other stats it needs a little more)
- Dexterity: 34 (This grants a 48% boost to critical hit chance, which paired with the Dirty Fighting Feat from Stabbomancer allows for a 78% increase to critical hit chance)
- Intelligence: 10 (This stat could be useful for allowing the class to throw out elemental spells more regularly but isn't quite as crucial to the build as some other stats)
- Wisdom: 30 (This boosts Status Effect Damage by 40% which is highly useful in a build focused on status effects)
- Constitution: 6 (While a low constitution is a dangerous proposition, Constitution is simply not as important as the other stats for this build)
- Attunement: 12 (The 2% boost to action skill cooldown rate can be handy on occasion)
Stabbomancer Skills
- Tier 1: Arsenal (5/5): Increasing damage from almost all sources by 15%.
- Tier 1: Potent Poisons (5/5): Increasing Status Effect Damage by 20% and Status Effect Duration by 40%, giving more time to inflict damage and take advantage of "Exploit Their Weakness."
- Tier 2: Follow Up (3/3): Improving melee damage by 6% per stack whenever the Fatemaker inflicts gun damage on a foe. 10 stacks at maximum makes this a potent booster for melee critical strikes.
- Tier 2: Exploit Their Weakness (3/3): Inflicting Status effects on enemies causes them to take 6% additional damage from all sources, per unique status effect. This skill is critically important to this build for drastically increasing its damage potential.
- Tier 3: Nimble Fingers (3/3): This skill increases fire rate and spell damage by 18% and 24%, respectively, whenever melee damage is inflicted by the Fatemaker.
- Tier 3: Shadow Step (1/1): This kill skill guarantees that the Fatemaker's next melee attack will be a critical hit if it is dealt in the next 6 seconds after slaying a foe. This pairs wonderfully with the various critical boosting and damage boosting effects elsewhere in the build.
- Tier 4: Contagion (3/3): This skill provides the build with some much needed multi-target capabilities by adding a 24% chance for applied status effects to spread to nearby enemies. If no enemies are nearby this instead apply a different randoms status effect to the original target. This helps to trigger "Exploit Their Weakness" and benefits greatly from "Potent Poisons."
- Tier 5: A Thousand Cuts (5/5): This skill provides a stacking +1% boost to damage dealt whenever a critical hit is dealt. Each stack lasts for 12 seconds, melee critical hits grant additional stacks, and the player can benefit from 25 stacks at a time. Naturally, this pairs fantastically with "Shadow Step" and the build's 78% boost to critical hit chance.
- Tier 5: Alchemical Agent (1/1): Building on the enhanced critical hit rates of this build, Alchemical Agent allows melee critical hits to apply random status effects, which can be spread and enhanced by the other Stabbomancer skills already mentioned.
- Tier 6: Executioner's Blade: The Stabbomancer capstone skill provides a 20% chance for gun and spell critical hits to create ethereal blades over the target. These drop to impale the target after a short delay, dealing melee damage equal to 150% of the Fatemaker's equipped melee weapon's damage. This provides a further boost to the build's damage potential when fighting, especially when casting AOE spells with that improved critical hit rate.
Spore Warden Skills
- Tier 1: Bounty of the Hunt (5/5): This skill provides a +20% Action Skill Cooldown Rate whenever an enemy is slain. This boost lasts for 12 seconds, and is very useful for using "From The Shadows" with greater regularity.
- Tier 1: Kindred Heart (3/5): This skill provides the mushroom companion with 27% extra health and 24% extra damage, allowing it to provide better support in battle.
- Tier 2: Spore Cloud (1/1): This skill lets the Mushroom Companion get in on the status effect action with poison clouds that taunt enemies and deal damage over time.
- Tier 2: Bullseye (5/5): This skill grants a 60% boost to gun critical hit chance and companion critical hit chance, providing even more burst damage to the build.
