It's been two long years since Batman fans last got to see the Caped Crusader lead his own movie on the big screen. Matt Reeves made a big splash with The Batman, but since then, the sequel has been hit with numerous delays. On top of that, James Gunn is no doubt working on the DCU version of Batman, who could one day team up with David Corenswet's Superman.

While Michael Keaton's beloved version of Batman got to shine in The Flash (along with a brief appearance by Ben Affleck's Dark Knight), fans haven't gotten a standalone Batman adventure in theaters since Robert Pattinson donned the cowl. While no new Batman projects have officially been given any release dates, fans will get a chance to see two great adventures featuring the superhero on the big screen in August.

The one-night-only event will see Tim Burton's classics play in 160 Dolby Cinemas

Variety reports that Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Returns will play in 160 Dolby Cinemas across the United States for one night only on August 25th. To make things more enticing, the movies will be presented in their remastered editions, promising an even more gorgeous trip back to Burton's version of Gotham City. Along with enhanced picture, the movies will also feature Dolby Atmos sound to sell every sound effect and note of the timeless score even more. It's certainly a great treat for Batman fans who have become impatient waiting for more concrete updates on The Batman Part II.

Tim Burton's Batman changed everything for the superhero genre. It opened the door for more serious and darker takes on comic book heroes, and turned Michael Keaton from a comedic performer into a full-on action hero. The movie also introduced one of the most indelible movie villains in Jack Nicholson's Joker. While he may not beat Heath Ledger's version of the character for best on-screen appearance, his performance went on to inspire other actors and make the villain more than just a silly comic book clown for general audiences.

Batman Returns released three years later, and although it was a far more subversive take on the material, it remains a fan-favorite for its Christmastime setting and its darker, more gothic tone. Michelle Pfeiffer captured a lot of attention for her excellent take on Catwoman, while Danny DeVito brought a more sinister, animalistic version of the Penguin to the screen. Since that depiction, the Penguin has evolved into more of a conventional gangster in the form of Colin Farrell's Oz Cobb. However, he is no less violent and sadistic.

Batman Returns faced an uphill battle due to its less kid-friendly tone, and made less money at the box office than its predecessor. However, it still remains an excellent superhero movie, and many would argue the last good Batman movie until Batman Begins revitalized the franchise in 2005. This one-night-only event is something fans will not want to miss, and is a great chance to see some of the first modern superhero movies the way audiences got to experience them more than 30 years ago.
