The Abyssal Contract is one of the many Codex quests players can do early on in Throne and Liberty. This one is set in the spider-infested Carmine Forest, but instead of focusing on the many eight-legged freaks players see there, this quest is all about the haunted dungeon and its cursed inhabitants.
While the Abyssal Contract isn't terribly complicated, it can be confusing for players who have no idea where its main objectives are supposed to be. It's similar to Throne and Liberty's Return of the Age of the Wolves quest in a way — everything becomes much easier once you know what to do and where to go. Here's how you can complete this side quest.
Throne and Liberty - Soul Arbiters, Circe, And The Abyssal Contract
Before going into further detail about this quest, here are all the steps needed to finish it:
- Speak with Rutaine in Carmine Forest.
- Find and defeat a Soul Arbiter in Carmine Forest.
- Follow the soul that appears.
- Defeat Circe.
- Speak with Rutaine again.
Soul Arbiter Location In Throne And Liberty
The most confusing parts of this quest are the locations of Soul Arbiters and Circe. You can find the former near the Carmine Forest waypoint. The game should highlight their potential locations on your map, but in case none are visible, refer to the map above. You should also be able to farm some Manasteel ores in this area as well.
Soul Arbiters seem to spawn sparingly. If other players are also doing this quest, there's a chance they've already killed the Soul Arbiters in the area. In this case, just wait for a few minutes until another one spawns.
Circe's Location In Throne And Liberty
After you defeat the Soul Arbiter, a soul will pop out of its ghostly remains. Follow it, and you'll arrive at the gates to Syleus' Abyss. You'll find Circe right before the stairs leading further down into the dungeon. However, there's a fairly large chance that she won't be there when you get there, and that's because other players in the area might have already taken her down. She isn't that hard to fight, but make sure to upgrade your character accordingly.
Getting Circe to spawn can be a little tricky. If she doesn't spawn once the souls reach their destination, try touching the nearby waypoint. If she still doesn't appear, going inside Syleus' Abyss might trigger the right events. If neither of these work, then your best bet is to wait for someone else who's doing the same quest. If you see another player following souls into the open dungeon, wait for them by the staircase' edge, and check if Circe spawns for them.
