Death's Abyss is one of the more challenging dungeons in Throne and Liberty. Apart from having tougher enemies in general compared to the lower-level dungeons, this one also has a number of new mechanics for players to deal with, especially when it comes to the final boss.

If you've played through Specter's Abyss in Throne and Liberty before, then Death's Abyss should feel very familiar. Both are nearly the same when it comes to major encounters, though players will have to be a lot more cautious when trying to complete a run. Here's what you need to know in order to complete this dungeon.

Throne and Liberty - Death's Abyss Dungeon Overview

Death's Abyss is fairly simple as far as level 50 dungeons go. All players really need to worry about here are CC timings and DPS checks. The dungeon is full of level 50 monsters with upwards of 45k health, and the two minibosses here have wipe attacks that can be cancelled by well-placed stuns or other forms of action-cancelling crowd control.

While it may be tempting to attempt this dungeon as soon as you reach its recommended power level of 1600, we strongly recommend upgrading your gear in Throne and Liberty until you reach a power level of at least 2000.

Death's Abyss - Initial Combat Areas

The first few rooms in Death's Abyss have no special gimmicks. Just beat any of the enemies that stand in your way and avoid taking unnecessary fights. You can skip plenty of enemies by hugging one side of a room and waiting for patrols to pass by.

In times when combat is unavoidable, form a standard battle formation. Let the party's tank grab all the enemy's aggro while the rest burns down one target. Ideally, the team should focus on taking down enemy healers first. Always be ready to stun Arbiters once they start charging their AOE attacks .

Non-boss areas don't involve any complex mechanics apart from one section where the party must use levers to open the gates leading to the Riot Captain miniboss.

How To Beat The Elite Arkeum Shadowmancer In Death's Abyss

The first miniboss fight of this dungeon is set in a large hall that's full of enemies. Getting rid of these targets first is strongly recommended, but if you're trying to rush, the party can run straight down the middle of the hall and into the Elite Arkeum Shadowmancer's range without pulling any other enemies into them.

If any of the enemy soldiers do aggro onto the team, get rid of them first before fighting the Shadowmancer.

This boss has only one attack that players must be wary of. When it yells "I will end your life," it will lift players up into the air and instantly kill them after a short duration. To avoid certain death, other party members must use hard CC on the boss to cancel the attack. If you're using a Greatsword in Throne and Liberty, try to save your stun skills for when the boss is doing this attack.

How To Beat The Elite Arkeum Riot Squad Captain In Death's Abyss

The Riot Captain is basically the same as the Shadowmancer. Defeat or avoid any of the lesser monsters, then try to burn down the boss' health as quickly as possible. Players using DPS classes will shine more in this encounter, however.

When the Riot Captain covers himself with a blue shield, try to break it as quickly as possible. Save your highest-damaging abilities for this moment, or risk the entire team getting wiped. Once the shield is broken, hit the boss with a hard CC skill to cancel his strong AOE attack.

How To Beat Karnix In Throne And Liberty Death's Abyss Dungeon

Fighting Karnix in Throne and Liberty
Throne and Liberty Karnix fight

Karnix is basically a harder version of the Specter's Abyss boss. It uses the same attacks while adding a couple of new ones. For most of the battle, players must concentrate on doing their respective jobs while blocking any incoming Fury Attacks and avoiding mechanics. After a few rounds of trading blows with Karnix, it will start doing special attacks that players must learn how to avoid.

Teleport Shockwave Attacks

Throne and Liberty Karnix teleport

Karnix will teleport to a party member and slam them with its scythe, causing a cone-shaped shockwave to rupture forth and hit all targets in a straight line. This may seem like an erratic move, but it's actually quite predictable:

  • Karnix will always strike three times.
  • The first two attacks will teleport Karnix to the player farthest away from the boss' current position.
  • The first two attacks will always be shockwave attacks.
  • Karnix's third teleport will target the same target it previously teleported to.
  • The third attack will be a quick, AOE scythe sweep.

When fighting Karnix, one player should position themselves slightly behind the rest of the backline. Whoever Karnix teleports to should hug the boss and try to redirect the shockwave attack away from the party.

Spinning Scythes Attack

After the teleport combo, Karnix will mark three players with skulls and send scythes to chase after them. To avoid this, run away and make sure you don't cross paths with another marked player. You can use your dash morph in Throne and Liberty to outrun the scythes.

Ideally, marked players should try to run circles around the scythes to avoid accidentaly leading them into other party members. Try not to run too far away from the group, as mitigating the next attack will need as many players as possible.

Death Circle Attack

Throne and Liberty Karnix Death Circle

Karnix will mark an ally for death, placing a dark circle under them and instantly killing them after a short while. To avoid this marked ally's death, the entire team must stand in the dark circle. This will cause Karnix's damage to spread among players, lowering its overall effect. After the sweep, the boss will follow up with an blockable Fury Attack.

There's a decent chance that Karnix will kill or significantly damage everyone inside the circle (except maybe for the party's tank) if there are four or fewer players inside, which is why everyone needs to group up in order to survive.

After this attack, the boss will repeat its entire moveset. The times when Karnix isn't doing any of its special attacks are your best DPS windows, so save your hardest hitting attacks for those moments.
