If players keep climbing Taedal's Tower, they will ultimately face the fourth major challenge that lies waiting on the 15th floor: the Stealer of Light Dren. This boss has a particularly obnoxious mechanic, so beating it can be tricky, especially for players who have a build with less mobility and resistance.

So, here we have a detailed guide on how to complete Taedal's Tower 15th Floor challenge Stealers and Retrievers, and a walkthrough on how to beat the Boss without too many issues. Let's take a look at the main mechanics of this encounter.

Taedal's Tower 15th Floor Boss In Throne And Liberty

Dren, the Stealer of Light, is a melee-focused boss with fast attacks, and access to some sick ninja moves, as well as some annoying AoE that can kill unprepared players in an instant. But perhaps the most annoying mechanic this boss fight has is the instant stun and lights out mechanic that forces players to seek a light before the boss doppelgangers drain them of their life force.

Let's check some essentials before we proceed with the boss fight and how to beat him:

  • Blocking on time: This combat has a lot of Fury Attack instances that need to be blocked, so if the players do not know how to perfect parry and negate damage (by now, it should be second nature to them) they will suffer a lot.
  • Avoiding AoE: Like most of the boss battles in the game, the annoying AoE pools that deal constant damage are also present here. Dodging the blood spikes and the remaining aftereffects, or staying in the thin line that is created in the middle of the two spike traps is a good way to survive for longer, and reach the desired result.
  • Puzzle-solving: This battle requires some puzzle-solving, but it's quite simple. Players only need to "retrieve the light" that was stolen from them.
  • Stolen Light: to initiate the battle, players need to interact with the ball of light in the middle of the Arena. They need to interact with the same object to complete the shadow puzzle and stun the boss when the lights go out and the puzzle phase begins.

Since players might have faced Leonardas already, it's a similar boss. The Stealer of Light is a vampire, and like any vampire, it will have three main powers: control over blood, shadow powers, and super speed. That's more or less the entire fight, but let's take a look over each of the Boss attacks so we can know exactly what to do and how to counter all his tactics. Another curious thing the players might have noticed already is that upon entering the Arena, there will be a small ball of light in the middle of the Arena. Interact with it to begin the fight, and don't worry about the transformation of the character: It is merely cosmetic.

Dodge/Block Active skills have a cooldown, if players spam them and do not block an incoming Fury Attack, the game will penalize them by putting that skill in CD. Take this chance to time your dodges and parries perfectly, and practice negating damage to use Block/Dodge efficiently during future fights.

Throne And Liberty: How To Complete At The Lycans' Hall Moon Puzzle

The puzzle during 'At The Lycans' Hall' can be pretty tricky in Throne and Liberty. Here's how to solve it without breaking a sweat.

Stealer Of Light Moveset In Throne And Liberty

Dren, The Stealer of Light, will rely heavily on his speed for the battle, confusing the players, causing them harm, and teleporting between their flanks to avoid certain skillshots. So, parrying and stunning him is a must to win this fight. Below there's a video on how we countered it with a Daggers and Greatsword build.

  • Fury Attack:Every now and then, the Boss will launch a fury attack with both swords. Players need to parry perfectly to stun it and take advantage of these precious moments to deal as much damage as they can. If they're not equipped with a good parrying ability, they should dodge it instead.
  • Blackout/Lightsteal: The boss will do an unavoidable Wrath attack and stun the players wherever they are. After stunning them, they will be sent to one of the corners of the circular arena, and the lights will go out. A ball of light will appear in the opposite extreme of the arena, and players need to run quickly and activate it while dodging the shadows created by the boss. If they fail to retrieve the light on time, they will die immediately. Once the players grab the light, they need to turn around, as the boss will reappear in the middle of the arena. If players do it right, they will stun the boss for 3 to 4 seconds, giving them enough time to deal a lot of damage to him.
  • Blood Spike Trap: The boss will create two sections of bloody spikes randomly around either him or the player. Players need to move to the middle of the spikes (a free line without the AoE) or dodge using the block button and the directionals to avoid the AoE. This causes moderate damage, but the more they stand on it, the more they'll suffer.
  • Shadow Jump: If left uncontrolled for too long, the boss will start doing an annoying teleport between the player's two flanks, repositioning himself as it deals damage, and avoiding targeted spells and AoE effects. To avoid this, players need to block at the right time and stun him in place for as long as they can. The more time the boss spends CCed, the less time it will be jumping around and laughing at the players as he bleeds them out.
  • Blood Ball: Another Fury Attack, this time, a ranged one. Pay attention to the closing purple circle, and dodge or block to avoid being stunned and then Shadow Jump-ed. This attack is mostly used against ranged players, so, Staff users beware.

Best Strategy For The Stealer Of Light Boss In Throne And Liberty

For Melee Players

Keep the boss at close range, never lose sight of it. For Greatsword users, use Stunning Blow or Devastating Smash to keep the boss in place and prevent it from moving into range. Blocking with Iron Point Parry is the best strategy to keep him stunned for longer periods, and delivering powerful combos that will chip down its health in no time.

For Sword & Shield users, trust in the Chain Hook and Fierce Clash combo for creating a similar window of opportunity, then deal as much damage as possible. Use mitigation skills sparingly, and save them for the second half of the fight, when the Boss is already cornered, and only in case the health bar of the character drops dangerously.

Daggers users should apply stacks of Thundercloud using Lightning Infusion (Inject Venom) and Cleaving Moonlight, and they can combo it well with the Fatal Stigma skill. Rely on mobility to dodge those pesky AoEs, never stay in one place. If the Boss is fast, then be faster, use Shadow Strike to confuse him, and then repeat combos until his health drops to zero.

For Ranged Players

Staff and Wand & Tome users will be more vulnerable during this fight. It will take some time until they get the hang of dodging, as they should not try parrying or blocking the Stealer of Light's Fury Attacks, it will be nearly impossible for them to mitigate enough damage. Preferably to dodge and keep shooting spells.

In the case of Staff users, they should use Inferno Wave, Chain Lightning, and Serial Fire Bombs, because they're instant cast spells and allow players to move and shoot.

Tome & Wand players might be more vulnerable since they need to rely on their curses taking effect to deal damage, while they also have great mitigation tanks to their healing abilities and passives. At the end of the day, it will be a battle of attrition between them and the boss to see who endures more damage.

Crossbow users and Longbow players have plenty of mobility and skillshots. They shouldn't have too much trouble kiting the boss into fighting them, though be careful with the Blood Shoot Fury Attack, as it will immediately stun all characters and leave them vulnerable to the Boss's pesky Shadow Jump attacks.

If players keep in mind all the aforementioned, and avoid the Boss AoE, and complete the Light Retrieving sequences, they shouldn't have any issues. But in case they struggle, having Lady Knight Karmashen (for Range) as a Guardian, or Vampire Hunter Ezekiel (for Melee) is also a good emergency strategy.
