The Witcher: Blood Origin teaser trailer was released by Netflix, offering new footage of lead stars Michelle Yeoh, Sophia Brown, and Laurence O'Fuarain in action.

Set 1200 years before the events of The Witcher series starring Henry Cavill, Blood Origin will explore the creation of the first Witcher. The series also aims to chronicle the events leading up to the Conjunction of Spheres, which resulted in the realms of monsters, elves, and humans being merged into one.

The Witcher: Blood Origin teaser trailer is just barely over a minute long, but it offers stunning footage of the landscape of the mythical world. Set to the tune of a song seemingly sung by Brown's Éile, the teaser also includes footage of her and O’Fuarain's Fjall engaging in sword fights that are as bloody as they are fast-paced. Although Yeoh's Scian is the last member of a nomadic tribe of sword elves, she is notably sitting out of the action, but the teaser for the 4-part The Witcher: Blood Origin does hint at her taking part in an epic battle by showing a brief shot of her on horseback with a sword in hand and an army behind her.

The Witcher: Blood Origin will be run by Declan de Barra, who created the prequel series along with The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich. Both serve as executive producers on the series, and de Barra already has extensive experience with the franchise as one of the writers for The Witcher. Production on Blood Origin wrapped in November 2021, with Vicky Jewson and Sarah O'Gorman taking on directorial duties.

The Blood Origin teaser arrives not long after it was announced that Cavill will be leaving The Witcher after season 3. Taking over the role of Geralt for season 4 will be Liam Hemsworth, who actually came close to playing the character before the job ultimately went to Cavill.

The recasting wasn't exactly the best news for all, as many fans petitioned to keep Cavill as Geralt in The Witcher. It's unlikely to change anything, so the arrival of the Blood Origin teaser is likely a welcome change of pace for those disheartened fans, and they only have to wait until Christmas to finally watch the whole series.

The Witcher: Blood Origin will be released on Netflix on December 25, 2022.
