The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt remains a high bar for excellent open-world RPGs. The next-gen update gave the game new ray-tracing features and a new quest for Geralt to experience. While you don't create your own character in The Witcher 3, you still build Geralt's repertoire. Every time you level up, you gain an ability point. You then put these ability points into a branch of Geralt's abilities.
The Level Cap is 100 if you have the Complete Edition featuring all the DLC. The Blood and Wine expansion also adds mutations that take up ability points too. Finishing the game will only get Geralt to level 50 or so. This means you cannot fill out the entirety of his Witcher skills. You may want to respec at some point in Geralt's long journey. Here is how you can respec ability points as well as mutations in The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt.
The Witcher Season 4 Has A Chance To Do Right By The Fans
The Witcher Season 4 could be a reinvention of the Netflix series in several ways.
How to Respec Ability Points
You will need to acquire certain potions to respec in The Witcher 3. The Potion of Restoration is required to reset all ability points placed into mutations. This is added in the Blood and Wine expansion. It allows Geralt to use mutagens to create powerful buffs to his abilities. You can only find these potions in the Blood and Wine area of Toussaint. It will cost 1000 gold regardless of who is selling it to you. Consume the potion and all Geralt's ability points invested in mutation will be restored. Unfortunately, any mutagens you used will not be refunded. Carefully consider when you use this potion if you've used many mutagens in your current build.
The Potion of Clearance is used for the regular ability branches. It also costs 1000 gold. You can find a few early on, but they grow more common toward the game's latter half. Consume the potion to reset Geralt's ability points. You also get one Potion of Clearance for free when starting New Game Plus. This lets you tweak your build for the harder-hitting enemies in your second playthrough.
