Summary
- Geralt can trigger a rare cutscene by saving a man in Novigrad, angering guards and disposing of them swiftly.
- A crafty player on Reddit shared a hidden cutscene that involves Geralt rescuing a man named Moritz Diefenthel in Novigrad.
During a playthrough of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, a player shared a rare and missable cutscene that can be triggered if Geralt saves a man burning at the stake in the city of Novigrad. While this action will draw the ire of the Redanian guards and witch hunters in The Witcher 3, the player who recorded the video was able to dispose of them quickly.
While the titular Wild Hunt is the overarching threat of The Witcher 3, Geralt encounters some unsavory characters throughout his journey. While some villains such as Gaunter O'Dimm are known for their charm and wit, others such as King Radovid of Redania are more dastardly in their attempts to reign supreme over the Northern Kingdoms. In The Witcher 3, the Third Northern War between the Kingdom of Redania and the Nilfgaardian Empire saw the former on the backfoot, with King Radovid taking drastic measures to assert control over the remaining territories that were not taken by Nilfgaard. During his crazed campaign, Radovid had anyone suspected of sorcery or witchcraft burned at the stake by witch hunters and guardsmen alike.
Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 Apparently Still Have Secrets Left to Find
A top developer at CD Projekt Red says The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 have more Easter Eggs that players still need to uncover.
Though Geralt's travels in The Witcher 3 take him to Novigrad during the main story, a crafty player pointed out what could happen if the White Wolf intervenes in the witch hunters' affairs. A Reddit user named Jnarvaeztheabnormal recorded and posted a video on the r/Witcher3 subreddit of one such rescue attempt on the outskirts of Novigrad. The video was recorded during the opening arc of The Witcher 3, which saw Geralt and his allies search for Ciri, who was on the run from the Wild Hunt. Although this was not one of the most important choices in The Witcher 3, Jnarvaeztheabnormal saved their game to avoid any complications. Geralt then drew his steel sword and attacked the Redanian guards and witch hunters who were taunting and burning an innocent man. A mix of sword skills and Witcher Signs like Quen made quick work of the armored Redanian guards.
The Witcher 3 Has A Hidden Cutscene In Novigrad That Players Can Discover
Following the fight, a cutscene was triggered that saw Geralt identify the burning man as Moritz Diefenthel, a friend of one of Geralt's romance interests, the red-haired sorceress Triss Merigold. Geralt chided Moritz for calling him out among the crowd and warned him to flee before any more Redanian guards showed up to investigate the scene.
In the comments, other fans of The Witcher 3 stated they did not know about saving Moritz in Novigrad, and thanked Jnarvaeztheabnormal for the video. Though The Witcher 3 was released in 2015, only time will tell what secrets players can still uncover.
