A decade after the game's initial launch, The Talos Principle is set to make a big comeback in the form of a remaster. The Talos Principle: Reawakened will see the 2014 puzzle game return to current-gen platforms with a fresh coat of paint and more.

The original Talos Principle was released in 2014, and was a hit among critics and fans. The game currently holds "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews from Steam players, and it quickly became regarded as one of the best puzzle games ever made. It was an impressive effort from developer Croteam, which had previously been known for the Serious Sam series. Quite a change of pace. The game was followed by a 2023 sequel, which received a similarly positive reception.

In a brand-new trailer, Croteam revealed The Talos Principle: Reawakened, a shiny remaster of the 2014 puzzle game. It becomes the latest game to use Unreal Engine 5, the highly popular engine seeing massive amounts of uptake at the moment. The trailer boasts enhanced lighting, textures, and environmental design, and the comparisons between the two are incredible. The decade-old title has been transformed, looking much more in line with its 2023 sequel, The Talos Principle 2.

The Talos Principle is Getting a UE5 Remaster

However, it's not just fancy new graphics that will make The Talos Principle: Reawakened worth the time. Various quality-of-life improvements have been made to make the game feel more accessible, including the ability to rewind time and a hint system. The game's acclaimed Road to Gehenna expansion has also been remastered as part of the package, as well as a brand-new chapter titled "In the Beginning." Perhaps the biggest addition is the inclusion of a level editor, which will allow players to create their very own Talos Principle levels for years to come.

Croteam is yet to give a release date for The Talos Principle: Reawakened beyond early 2025, when it will arrive on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. While the original game still held up well, it's great to see such a great game get a deserved remaster. By the looks of the trailer, it seems to be an extensive revisit of the popular puzzle game, and hopefully, it will be able to join the ranks of the best remasters when it releases next year. For gamers who can't wait that long but still want to try the game, the original Talos Principle is currently 90% off on Steam until December 19, bringing it down to an all-time low price of $2.99 on the platform.
