Skills and Abilities Explained

books and knowledge system in the stone of madness.

In The Stone of Madness, Skills are character-specific specializations. For example, Eduardo can carry and move heavy objects, Alfredo can uncover hidden clues, and Amelia can slip through gaps in walls. Abilities, or Revelations, are additional Skills that you can unlock for each character.

Unlocking new Abilities lets you fully utilize your characters’ specializations. For example, Alfredo can gain the ability to wear a Priest’s Robe, allowing him to move around unnoticed. This enhances his default Priest skills, increasing his versatility.

How to Unlock New Abilities

  1. Collect Knowledge (EXP).
  2. Open the main menu. (Press the View button or ESC.)
  3. Go to the Revelations tab.
  4. Select the desired character and purchase their Abilities.

In The Stone of Madness, each character can acquire up to five additional Revelations, which fall into four types: Passive, Allowed, Forbidden, and Night Phase. Here’s a breakdown of what each status means:

  • Passive: Abilities that are always active and don’t need to be triggered. For example, Amelia’s Passive Revelation boosts her speed and stamina, allowing her to sprint faster and for longer periods.
  • Allowed: These Revelations can be used near guards and nurses without alerting them or raising suspicion.
  • Forbidden: Using these Abilities near guards and nurses can lead to getting caught.
  • Night Phase: These Revelations can only be used in the Cell before starting a mission.

How to Get Knowledge Points

knowledge point in stone of madness.

Knowledge is your experience point (EXP) in The Stone of Madness. To unlock new Revelations, you need this currency, which can only be earned by looting Books and having Alfredo read them. When you use Alfredo’s “Study” skill in the Cell, you gain Knowledge points that can be exchanged for Abilities.

Can You Farm Knowledge?

Resources in The Stone of Madness are non-renewable, making it impossible to farm them—especially rare ones like Knowledge. However, you can speed up Alfredo’s book reading by following this method: Start a session, pray at a holy statue to skip ahead to night, return to the Cell, and use your reset Action Points to read more Books. Repeat this process to quickly go through all your available Books.
