An unlucky Sims 4 player has encountered an NPC from the in-game dating app who doesn't quite match the dating profile description, revealing the presence of catfishes in the game. Dating is an integral part of the newest Sims 4 DLC called Lovestruck, which rolled out on July 25.

Since releasing to a lukewarm critical reception in 2014, The Sims 4 has grown by leaps and bounds through its 16 expansion packs, selling tens of millions of copies in the process. The Sims 4 Lovestruck is the latest expansion to be shipped by developer Maxis and offers features such as an online dating app, a turn-on/turn-off system, among other things. While it's nothing new to be engrossed in a game, the newest DLC is apparently going a step further and toying with the feelings of certain unsuspecting Sims players.

In a popular Reddit post, a Sims 4 player shared that they got catfished by an NPC who lied about her age on the in-game dating app known as Cupid's Corner. They shared images that described the woman as a "Young Adult" on her profile even though she turned out to be an "Elder" in the game. Comparing her dating profile picture with her in-person appearance, key differences like facial lines can be clearly identified. In the comments, several users poked fun at the author's expense, with one of them saying that the Sim in question had "that Snapchat filter on" when taking the profile picture.

Catfishes May Be Rampant in The Sims 4 Lovestruck

As suggested by multiple comments on the post, getting catfished in The Sims 4's dating scene may not be that rare. One of the players recounted how an NPC having an average body frame in their picture turned out to be a muscular character on the day of the date. Another player revealed being in the exact same situation as the post's author in which their Sim had been lied to about their date's age.

Given that catfishing is apparently taking place in a few different ways in The Sims 4, it was likely planted in the game by Maxis rather than being something unintentional. In that case, it's safe to say that the EA-owned studio has included in its game an aspect of online dating apps that certain fans wouldn't have seen coming. Hopefully, more features like these that add realism and humor to the life-simulation series are considered when The Sims 4 gets a long-awaited sequel in the future.
