Players can now set Sims' romantic boundaries, and this will affect what type of behaviors will make them jealous and hurt them. To change a Sims romantic boundary preferences in The Sims 4, gamers have to click the three dots underneath the Identity Panel - this will give them access to advanced settings. Then, select the "Romantic Boundaries" tab to see all the available jealousy options and change them freely.

Here are the romantic boundary options available in The Sims 4:

  • This Sim feels jealous if any romantic partner engages in non-physical romance with other Sims
  • This Sim feels jealous if any romantic partner engages in physical romance with other Sims (excluding WooHoo)
  • This Sim feels jealous if any romantic partner engages in WooHoo with other Sims
  • This Sim's jealousy triggers can change by talking about it with other Sims

How Romantic Boundaries Work

When setting up a Sim's romantic boundary preferences, gamers will decide what type of behavior will cause them to feel jealous. These options allow gamers to customize their Sims' relationships in The Sims 4 to a whole new level.

Romantic boundaries make it possible for Sims to enter polyamorous relationships. If the Sims in a partnership are okay with the other being involved in a physical or non-physical romance with other Sims, this won't cause any jealousy between the pair - as long as their romantic partner respects their boundaries.

However, if a Sim's romantic boundaries aren't respected, this can lead to them being hurt, gaining the Jealous trait, and even breaking up with their partner.

How to Change Romantic Boundaries

To change a Sim's romantic boundaries, their partner can have a conversation with them and ask them to reconsider what triggers their jealousy. They can either accept or decline, but if they accept to let go of a trigger, doing those types of actions will evoke little jealousy in the other Sim.

To do this, first gamers will have to learn about their partner's romantic boundaries, which they can do by breaking them or asking through the Relationship tab in the Social menu. Next, to alter boundaries in The Sims 4, players have to select their romantic partner, open the Relationship tab, then select "Change Relationship," and lastly, pick "Ask to Reconsider Romantic Boundaries."

Players can pick the boundary that they'd like their partner to reconsider, but they can only choose one at a time. After, they must wait a bit before doing it again.

Romantic boundaries cannot be changed in Create-a-Sim unless gamers enter Manage Worlds or use the cheat CAS.fulleditmode.
