A Sims 4 player has given the Goth family a overhaul that will make Sims 2 players nostalgic. The family has gone through some redesigns over the years, and some Sims 4 players prefer how they looked in the second game.

As one might expect, The Sims 4's new style and graphical overhaul from the older games led to some characters looking a bit different than fans remembered them. The Sims 4 launched way back in 2014, but there was enough controversy surrounding the family's new looks that EA and Maxis made the surprising choice to overhaul the iconic Goth family in 2022. While some of the changes were arguably an improvement, not all fans liked this redesign either, which may have partially led to this fan redesigning the family to look more like their Sims 2 versions.

Reddit user and Sims fan GabeTomatoes uploaded images of their Goth family overhaul, specifying that they'd tried to make them look more like their Sims 2 selves. The images show the current Sims 4 incarnation and GabeTomatoes's new versions, along with small thumbnails to show what the characters looked like within The Sims 2. The differences are apparent, with most of the changes going into facial shape, features, skintone, and hair styles.

Bella Goth and Cassandra both have narrower, more oval-shaped faces, with darker skin tones. Their hairstyles and outfits have also been revised, making them more faithful to their Sims 2 looks. Meanwhile, Mortimer Goth simultaneously looks older and younger, with a touch of gray added to his hair, but fewer wrinkles and age-lines on his face. Alexander Goth looks a bit paler, his hairstyle and glasses have changed, and his outfit is closer to how it looked in The Sims 2.

The Sims 4's Changes to The Goth Family

Fans have been interested in the overhauls, with one calling GabeTomatoes's efforts a "great job." However, many players have honed in on how much they dislike the fact that The Sims 4 altered the way that the Goths looked in the first place. While fans weren't overly receptive to their looks when The Sims 4 came out, particularly due to their lightened skin tones, some argue that the official overhauls changed too much. The players lamented that while some thought that darker skin would be more faithful to their Sims 2 appearances (with the exception of Alexander, who was originally fairly pale), their overall designs were tweaked too much by EA.

Thankfully, The Sims 4 has an extremely extensive modding scene that can help change the game to fit each player's esthetic. Players are at their liberty to play how they like, which includes downloading overhauls for the family to make them look different.
