Summary
- The Sims 3 has a new update fixing issues on newer Intel computers.
- Players with mods should exercise caution when installing the update.
- The Sims 4 players can expect new content and significant overhauls.
Fans of The Sims 3 may be surprised to learn that there's a new update out for the game. The Sims 3, which launched way back in 2009, has received a fix for a long-standing issue that could impact the title's performance on newer computers.
The Sims 3 has largely been overshadowed by The Sims 4, which is still being supported by EA as the series heads into its 25th anniversary. In fact, The Sims 4 is receiving two major updates to celebrate the anniversary, but it seems the developer has also chosen to address a lingering problem with The Sims 3.
Sims 4 Players Are Challenging Themselves to Build Ugly Houses
The Sims 4 player community bands together to tackle the unusual challenge of building a particular, very ugly house in the game.
The Sims 3 launched a new update that fixes an issue with newer PCs using Intel CPUs. Back in 2021, Intel launched a new line of processors referred to as Alder Lake or as the 12th generation of Intel processors. Unfortunately for fans of The Sims 3, these processors were found to be largely incompatible with the game, and players would experience crashes on startup. A fan released a fix of their own back in 2022 that fixed the issue for many players, but those who didn't know about it or are unwilling to install unofficial files can now get the latest update from the EA app. The 1.69.47.024017 version is reportedly only available for EA app and Windows versions of the game, but not Steam.
The Sims 3 Players Should Exercise Caution When Installing Update
Considering that it has been many years since the last update was released for The Sims 3, any players with a vast collection of mods should proceed carefully. While The Sims 4 commands the majority of the playerbase for the series at this point, The Sims 3 still sees a significant amount of players, who may be a bit rusty on taking precautions when installing updates to the title. While the update shouldn't cause any conflicts with mods, it's a good idea to back everything up prior to proceeding.
While The Sims series has released new entries over the years, long-time fans still have nostalgic feelings for the older Sims games, including The Sims 3. There's a good chance that some players have been effectively locked out of playing The Sims 3 for quite some time now as they've adopted new PC hardware over the years, so this may be a good opportunity to revisit the game. Those who prefer The Sims 4, however, will be glad to know that the game will not only be seeing new content but will also receive significant overhauls, like improved lighting. This is great news, especially since The Sims 5 isn't happening, so The Sims 4 will need to hold up for many more years.
